I was reinfected with Lyme disease last summer. I had done battle with Lyme, Bart, Babesia, RMSF, Anaplasmosis, Ehrlichia and others from 2010 - 2012....and won!! I was feeling pretty good - then we moved my FIL that had Alzheimer's in with us for the last 3 months of his life -very, very stressful, but worth every moment.
The hardest part came when my brother kicked my Mom out and she had to move half way across the country on her own because we still hadn't even had the services for my FIL. So I had to find her an apt during this time as well. Once she was here, it was very stressful for me as we don't do well together.
Long story short - I ended up with severe adrenal exhaustion which created a hypothyroid situation and in June of last year (2014) I had a tick attach while I was in town. The bite stayed very swollen, angry looking and itched like crazy for 3 weeks. I should have known then that I was in trouble, but didn't want to admit that I would have to face treatment again (lesson learned!!!!). So I was reinfected I believe - and here's why:
I had 2 very, very good years!! I had more energy and stamina than I have ever
had. I was on the go all day long and slept very well at night. I believe if I had relapsed, that it would have happened much earlier than that - back when I was only getting a few hours of sleep a day trying to keep up with my FIL's needs, then having my Mom essentially show up on my door step and having to "tend to her needs" (she's kind of high maintenance - LOL!).
Unfortunately there's no way to be absolutely sure, but based on what I know and what I experienced, I have to say that I really believe that I was reinfected as I had no residual symptoms from the tick-borne infections.
I went back to what worked the first time - herbs. I don't seem to tolerate pharmaceuticals well any more. I believe I'm done with treatment again too (
Yippiieeee!!!!), but as we all know, only time will tell - and since my adrenals and thyroid are still healing, I won't know for a while yet! Although any symptoms that can be associated with "only" tick borne infections that I had like muscle twitching, insomnia, unbelievable joint pains and such are no longer a part of my life. I don't have much energy yet, but it is greatly improved and can be attributed to both/either adrenal and thyroid issues. The same with my weight (ugh!) and a few other minor things.
And yes, that's all any of these tests are at this point in time - a snapshot of a moment in time, as you said. There is actually only limited information in them.
