I found quite a bit on this searching through the forum, but thought I'd try to start a straight poll on the appropriate probiotic dosage level during abx. My LLMD just told me to take a couple different kinds twice a day along with saccaromyces boulardi but didn't really specify a billion unit dosage.
I just noticed that the one I take is only 5 billion per pill, and most of what I've read suggests people take 25-100 billion per day. Thoughts from the pros?

Not sure how to answer your survey because I rotate different kinds with various counts. And I increase the amount of pills I take if I feel I am under stress, feeling unwell, or can sense that the Candida is getting ahead of me.
Just a note, it is important to take the probiotics two hours after your antibiotic dose.

I also use fermented foods, such as kefir and sauerkraut, as probiotics, so can't give a dosage. Sorry.

Probiotics are vital. I have been told 50 Billion plus a day.
I'm sure you can supplement with fermented foods and kefir in order to figure out a good balance, but definitely don't skimp on probiotics.

I use a 112.5 billion count probiotic every night. It is called vsl3. They send it in a little styrofoam cooler so it stays fresh. I think it's one if the best on the martlet and cheapest I've seen for such a high dose. It's 53 dollars for 60 pills.

I'm no *pro* but I've been taking Florastor, a relatively inexpensive shelf stable version of S. Boulardi, since starting oral abx in January. I buy it on Drugstore.com.
Last week I stopped taking it because I didn't think it was doing anything.
HAHA I thought wrong.
After spending most of yesterday in the bathroom, (catching up on my reading) I popped my Florastor last night and will take one every day for the duration. Lesson learned!
The only other probiotic I get is from a yogurt I sneak in a few times a week around antibiotic dosing.

I am certainly no pro, but I take three hi quality probiotics that add up to 170 billion a day.
I also was doing kefir, but it didn't cooperate with me. Since this Lyme has come on, I have developed significant food allergies. If you could tolerate fermented foods, and especially can learn how to make them on your own at home, I would highly recommend it. Probiotics can give you several, and sometimes up to a dozen different strands. However, a good batch of homemade kefir made from good healthy kefir grains contains hundreds of different strains.
If you want a good place to order some kefir grains, I would be happy to share. It is super cheap and the grains come in wonderful shape. And the wonderful thing about kefir is the grains continue to grow, and as long as you take care of and feed them, you will never need to buy grains again.
