I came across something on the internet about Stephen Buhner (in his Coinfections book, I believe) mentioning that NAC (N-acetyl-cysteine) is a biofilm buster.

As I don’t have that book yet, does anyone have any more info please? Does it mention what sort of biofilms it bursts? And what dose of NAC is required? Has anyone been using NAC as a biofilm buster?

As I’ve taken 1200mg x 2 of NAC each day for several years, I’m really hoping that I might have been taking a biofilm buster without realising.

Thank you!

Lol
Celeste, what did you take it for, if you didn't take it for biofilm busting? Do you think it was effective? Were you taking abx in addition to it?

I have the book. NAC is one of the recommended bio buster.
Me: At 99.9% symptom free--no abx for the past 5 years for Lyme and Bartonella;
Son: Bull's eye rash and Bartonella Igenex+
Both Daughters have symptoms of Lyme and/or Bartonella

I’ve been taking NAC as part of a Cpn protocol, along with doxycycline, roxithromycin, amoxicillin and metronidazole, as NAC deals with the Elementary Body form of Cpn. I also take it because it protects the liver (as I’m taking so many abx) and is a glutathione precursor (to aid methylation and detox).

Although I’ve been treating Cpn for a long time, I’ve only recently tested positive for Lyme and co-infections – so just now starting to learn about biofilms etc.

Very happy to hear that NAC is a recommended bio buster! Thank you!

I don't have the Lyme book--I will wait until the new one comes and get that one. But I am looking at the barto book and it says:
For braking bifilms "if you must":
1. NAC 4000 mg 2x daily and/or
2. Grater celandine 1/4 tsp 3x daily and/or
3. Royal jelly--contains decanoic acid to disperse biofilms 1 tsp 3x/day

Not sure if it works for other bio. Braking? Or just barto? I'm guessing it works for all?

Thank you for that info. My son is treating and need all the good info I can get, so I'm trying to learn :). Hope this helps :)

If you goto lymebook.com you can find The biofilm busting book by JS and download it for free.

NAC is n-acetyl-cysteine and it is a sulfur amino acid. It pulls heavy metals. All sulfur can do this not just NAC so you can use MSM as well.

There are other things you can use for busting biofilms. Including NAC, DMSO, EDTA, maple extract (just recently discovered), lumbrokinase, serrapetase, nattokinase, I think neem also busts biofilms. Lactoferrin helps by binding iron which might be present in the biofilms, xylitol also helps. Also royal jelly helps. Also some antibiotics can bust biofilms too, but I think some of them just get inside the biofilm causing it to fall apart like tinidazole, doxycycline, and azithromycin. They can help.

Somewhere around 90% recovered... Not easy to get the last 10%! open to any advice I can get!

Those with CBS mutations need to be careful with NAC.

I'm not sure about NAC. In addition to the others mentioned, Interfase from Klaire Labs is a biofilm buster.

I'm starting off with Nattokinase and Serrapeptase. I think my LLMD will eventually transition me to Interfase. She mentioned it at my last appointment. The Nattokinase works at lymphatic drainage. I think there is a whole process for biofilm busting. I am going to look into this further.

Also, if you chose to bust biofilms, make sure to research adequate binders to clean up the toxins.
