Im only 25 and before I got sick about two years ago I had no dark circles under my eyes/lines or any puffiness. Has anyone that has recovered from lyme had these and have them go away once they recovered? I was told by my LLMD the first time i saw him the puffiness and circles were from the sickness and should go away afterwards but I dont really believe him and this has been on my mind for a long time now and never really asked or discussed it with anyone else who might of had this happen to them and went away when they got better?

I've always thought it was a Vitamin K issue but that is just me.

Hi Myeezy,

Have you had your B vitamins levels checked, especially B12?

I think it is something that might clear up with treatment. When my Lyme exploded, I really noticed dark circles around my eyes. I think people call them raccoon eyes.

I have not really noticed them lately. Of course, check out the other possibilities too.

I've had dark circles under my eyes since I was a kid. They show up in all my grade school pictures since the year after I got the tick bite so I definitely believe they're related.

They're really bad when I'm having allergies and can't bear to wear any makeup under my eyes due to the extreme eye itchiness. My LLMD says this is classic "allergies presentation". I've noticed recently that when I'm feeling really good the circles are lessened. I pray they go away once I'm finally well!

I tried Viramin K creams for awhile but they did nothing for me. I don't have the puffiness you mention either. Just the raccoon eyes. Do you also have allergies?

In someone that doesn't have Lyme there most commonly caused by allergies.

It's a way our bodies tell us something isn't A OK. It should clear up with treatment.

I had the under eye circles since childhood but my allergies didn't begin until I was 26 years old. Never even had a cold before then. My Mom definitely always said the circles indicated my body was worn out from fighting something; doctors just never figured out what.

Ive had them all my life due to allergies, didn't seem to worsen with Lyme and co infections. One thing that does help is antihistamine eye drops both inside and underneath the eye. There are over the counter drops as well as prescription drops

I have the dark circles, not the puffiness. I think they started when I got Lyme. My doctor told me they have something to do with the liver. That my liver needs help. Who knows. I know I did not use to have them.
diagnosed October 2014. I am pretty confident that I have been infected since the summer of 2006. I also have hashimoto's/hypothyroid and SIBO.

Mine aren't puffy, but I have the dark circles, and almost hollow-like...along with the crepey skin. All, since lyme.
People are telling me (after they ask how I am feeling) - that I am looking better...so I guess those issues are getting better...so hopefully with time, we can expect it all to resolve...

I have dark circles. I have become quite good at covering them up. I think I started to notice them when I went back on treatment and all H broke loose. I look very tired and worn. I think its funny that people tell me how good I look. With out make up they would see how exhausted my face looks. I've decided they are looking at my weight. I wasn't heavy before, but now I am really thin. I don't think they would like to go through what I am going through. People want to be skinny.

I have dark circles under my eyes too, definitely what you'd call racoon eyes. I'm 22 years old, and it's really bothering me. At first I thought it had to do with my smoking habit, I used to smoke half a pack a day. But my friends who are my age smoke even more than I do, and they don't have even the slightest puffiness or dark circles under their eyes, this was one of the indications for me that I was somehow sick, but I didn't know what I had at the time. I started to notice it two years ago, which is around the time I contracted Lyme disease, so yeah, I do think Lyme can cause it. I'm pretty sure it has to do with inflammation and lack of sleep. And the lack of sleep only makes the inflammation worse, so it's a constant cycle. I've been on oral antibiotics for only 10 days, and they're starting to become much less noticeable than a week ago. I'm not sure whether that's due to the antibiotics killing off the bacteria, or because of the fact that Doxy is an anti-inflammatory. Either way, it's working.

I get the same thing and MAJOR puffiness. Really ugly. Sometimes I can't wear my contacts because the area around my eyes is so inflamed. Mine get like this when my kidneys are tanking. No more caffeine, lots of water, get your kidney values checked and you can dab a little Preparation H under your eyes to help with how they look until it goes away.

Best of luck to you!

I am finally enjoying a life without dark circles and puffy eyes in the morning. I use dermalmd under eye serum at night and as I wake up in the morning, I could tell a small difference. I would usually apply it again after washing my face. It makes me look forward to mornings every day.

Did you get your circles and puffy eyes after lyme?

Just seems strange that you are new member with one post (this one) and you found a post from 2 years ago to then talk about "dermalmd".

uhmm....

I had VERY dark under eye circles with occasional puffiness until about a month after starting antibiotics and then "poof" they were gone.

The circles were so dark it was kind of scary especially since I never previously had under eye circles.

I had really bad dark circles/ not usually puffy, for most of my life. Maybe a little weirdly textured, but not puffy, sometimes almost like a little water balloon or something- but not always.

Always attributed it to general lack of sleep etc. Even when I was taking meds that helped me sleep I figured that I would never be able to catch up on all those past missed hours of sleep- so I still blamed the circles on sleep deprivation.

I'm guessing now that it was Lyme because I sleep less than ever now, & no more circles...

All of a sudden ( a little over a year ago) I got bells palsey - both sides/ looked like I was 70 - overnight ( I was 34 then- and had always looked several years younger- even though I was looking ill)

My top eyelids were so puffy & droopy I could barely get my eyes open. From what I could see( very little, haha) the area beneath my eyes was puffy as well and OLD looking-But I couldn't see the circles. If anything, they had changed to a pink/red- and so had much of my face- this still comes & goes.

The really bad bells palsey symptoms lasted several months, but I still have it. But no circles.

Since then people often comment on why my face or eyes are swollen or puffy on a particular day... I just always figure its a Lyme thing... no dark circles though.

The only thing I occasionally get is like a brown/ purple bruised look right under the inside corner of my eye. Like a small triangle. No rhyme or reason that i can figure.

The only potentially Lyme killing thing I was taking at the time the circles disappeared was oil of oregano.i hadn't gotten my my diagnosis yet.

I had really upped my oregano oil dosage since just before the bells palsey -I had a terrible toothache and was literally just taking it by the dropperful as often as I could. I have continued using high doses since then due to the fact that I 1) need more dental work & can't get it right now 2) even prior to diagnosis I knew something bad was going on in my body & hoped the oil of oregano would help.

Maybe it killed just enough Lyme for it to stop showing up as dark circles. Or more likely, it was totally unrelated & my body just thought it would be a fair trade - dark circles for bells palsey.... hmmm....

Seriously though , I think you've already been given some good suggestions for things to look into...

Or maybe you'll just have to wait it out. Bodies can be such a mystery- especially bodies with Lyme...

I wouldn't stress about it too much now though, if you've got Lyme you're not going to look ( or feel) like yourself. I guess maybe some lucky people continue to look healthy, but I am definitely not one of them.

I just try to remind myself of several things- 1) we are all worth so much more than our 'looks' . 2) but reguardless of that philosophical fact- I will look better when I feel better. And I bet you will too!

So some of you all were able to get rid of them?

I still have them though I guess it not quite as bad as they once were.

I once saw a really attractive woman with these lyme eyes once and I wanted to ask her about lyme so bad but obviously that would have been weird and inappropriate. But she was still pretty despite it.

It used to really bother me but then over time as I realized other people really didn't care even the opposite sex, it made me realize it was sort my own personal vanity, so I got over it.
