I can't stay in some stores, especially the very low budget stores. The smell of the synthetic clothes make me want to leave immediatly. I get a severe nauseating headache. And it's like I can't breath properly.
There has been more and more attention in the media about
having to wash new clothes before wearing them. There's container gas, products that prevent fabric from wrinkling, coloring chemicals, pesticides, products that weaken synthetic fabric, formaldehyde, optic whiteners, etc...
Some remedies to get that smell out of clothes is washing them at 60°C (140°F).
Put them a while in a bucket of water with soda cristals r with vinegar, then wash again.
Baking soda in machine or hand wash: add a few spoonsfuls to your washing product. You might have to repeat it several times, especially with synthetic clothing. Don't breath in the steam while you're doing this, if there is steam (the chemicals will be in that steam).
I have real difficulties wearing synthetic clothes, it makes me nervous and aggitated. I avoid almost all of them.
I never use fabric softener and wash all my clothes and sheets (except for wool or silk) at 140°F, bathroom, cleaning and kitchen stuff at 194°F (towels, dish and washcloths, white cotton underwear, etc).
