My concentration and cognitive capacity have taken a big hit and I am starting to twitch. The neurological side of this scares me.

I have an appointment with a llmd in December, but am worried about the progression until then.

I'm still working full time (trying to get medical accommodation as I typically miss 1 day per week) but currently don't drive, as it doesn't feel safe, and spend all time outside of work bedridden. Things like bathing, eating, and remembering to take pain medication is becoming a challenge.

I used to be great at research but can't get from one thought to the next lately.

I think a herbal protocol is only way to go in the mean time.

Are there any protocols I should look into to try to break the brain barrier?

The depersonalization/ derealization is getting hard to live with. I'm willing to try anything. Are there any really good herbal antimicrobials?

Of course I understand we each are different and need to find what works for us with the help of our doctor, but my primary doctor is at the point of just prescribing percocet for pain (which does just about as much as tylonol), and the er just tells me to work with my primary doctor to control my fibromyalgia symptoms better (primary doc doesn't believe in lyme and thinks it's fibromyalgia).

Thanks so much in advance.

Here is the Buhner protocol page on his website....

http://buhnerhealinglyme.com/the-protocols/

The core protocol is :

Cats Claw. (Can be found in stores)
Japanese Knotwood
Eleuthero

The coinfection protocol :

Cryptolepis
Sida Acuta
Hawthorn
Houttuynia
Milk Thistle ( for detox). (Can be found in stores)

The supplements:

Serrapeptase
EGCG ( green tea extract)

The dosages for the herbals are pretty aggressive if you look at the protocol page some of the herbals can require up to a teaspoon 3 times a day. ( which means a 1 oz. bottle would only last a couple days.) So it could get a bit pricey....
Buhner offers some options for online suppliers. I have used Herbal Essence and have been fairly satisfied though I wish they would offer free shipping on larger orders.

By the way...I am not endorsing the Buhner protocol, in fact I am currently finishing a month of the Cowden protocol. I will say that I feel you get more bang for your buck and more medicine in your system sooner with the Buhner. So, I will be transitioning back.

Best of luck.....

Have you tried any of the Cowden herbs? Pinella is supposed to be good for brain fog.

Hey guys, thanks for the replies.

I have not tried either. It sounds like buhners is the most popular so I'm leaning towards trying that one first, though I've read good things about both that and the Cowden protocol.

When starting the buhner protocol would I want to follow the full protocol from day 1, or start with one herb and bring new ones in every few days as I get acclimated?

Are there any blood tests it would be important to have my regular doc do to make sure my body is not harmed by the released toxins?

Is it a good idea to switch off protocols, for example do buhners for a month, then Cowden for a month and so on?

Thanks so much.

Well, you wouldn't want to switch off Cowden that way. There is a specific plan and protocol that you start with the detox herbs and build up the amount of other herbs. You wouldn't be able to make much progress if you switched off every month.

Not sure about pulsing herbs that way.

When starting either protocol, it is good to start the herbs one at time.

Japanese Knotweed penetrates the blood-brain barrier.

Sarah gave you good advice about starting the herbs one at a time.

Start one at low dose, after a few days, if not herxing, increase slightly, and repeat.
After a few increases, add in the second herb - low dose again and follow above method.
Continue with the next herb....

When you've got all herbs in at a low dose....then start titrating up with each herb - one at a time ....making sure to stop when you herx... And continue only when herx has stopped.

It"'so better to get all herbs in at low dose... Instead of trying to get to full dose of one herb first.

Hope what I have written makes sense.

Thanks Sarah and Girlie. What you both shared makes a lot of sense.

I think I'll order what's needed for the buhner core protocol and get started with those, and as I feel more acclimated will look to add in the ones from the protocol for coinfections.

My earlier post made it sound as though I was jumping back and forth between Buhner and Cowden arbitrarily. Actually I wanted to sample both for a month at a time. I started the Buhner protocol in July for a month and tried the Cowden ( because of it's convenient schedule and packaging) beginning in August. Now that I am finishing up the month on Cowden I have decided that I prefer Buhner and will be going back.....

B777 your original post made sense to me, although I'm not really all there right now...haha

I think it's great that you tried both and now have an idea of what you like and dislike about each.

I'm really liking what I'm reading on Japanese knotweed and cats claw.

I know within buhners protocol it specifically states green dragon botanicals japanese knotweed. Does anyone know the reason for the specific brand?

I think the brands Buhner recommends are brands that he knows produce quality products.

On his website - on the left hand side where he has his protocols - there is a link to sources he recommends.

I have used the Green Dragon, Woodland a Essence and Sage Woman Herbs.

I like the Jernigan protocol ( you can read the book beating lyme disease by dr Jernigan for more info).
Specifically r. J's ANTITOX formula is unique to all lyme protocols in that it treats the ammonia in the brain that is a by product of lyme. IT helped so much for my brain issues! You could take borellogen ( for the bacteria) and antitox ( for the ammonia) three times a day.

I really appreciate everyones input.

I've got the core protocol ordered and am excited to get this started, I decided to go ahead and order green dragon botanicals just to start this off right.

I figure anything worth a go at this point.
