The nerves themselves are rarely damaged - it's the myelin sheath that almost always gets damaged, and it repairs itself when given enough time and the right nutrients. The entire length of the myelin sheath doesn't have to be damaged for one area to be affected. That's like saying that when a rope breaks, the whole length is weak - not true, it was only the spot that was weakest that broke on that rope.
Things don't always make sense with Lyme, it's a bacteria that searches out and attacks the weak points in our bodies - that's why we all have different symptoms or different symptom severity usually.
Most of my Nero symptoms are gone - that wouldn't happen this quickly had the nerves themselves been damaged as it can take up to 7 years for nerves to completely heal or regrow. My numbness, tingling, random nerve shocks and more are all gone in much less time due to the myelin sheath healing.
