I just started a new probioitic with 50 billion count. I have been herxing from it.....eye irritation, insomnia, and increased internal shaking, some chest pressure. I guess I will have to look for a lower count to take for now. Has anyone else had a herx from taking a probiotic? Is this from candida?

You can get a herx from candida die off. I'm not sure about those symptoms but that could definitely be it.

"Common Symptoms of yeast die-off include:

Fatigue, brain fog, gastrointestinal distress such as nausea, gas, bloating, diarrhea or constipation, low grade fever, headache, sore throat, body itch, muscle and joint soreness or pain, flu-like symptoms. Other symptoms include: lethargy, intense sweet cravings, rashes, irritability, joint stuffiness, or muscle pain. In susceptible individuals with pre-existing neurological symptoms such as hyperactivity, irritability, tantrums, and difficulty concentrating, their symptoms may temporarily intensify.

Agreeing with Sarah - you are most likely herxing from Candida or other fungal infection.

As you have said, taking a lower count probiotic at first will help, but also increase your detoxing so that you can build up the dosage so you can get rid of the fungal issues before they get any worse.

... Or leaky gut! I do have sometimes herx-like symptoms from hq probiotic lately, but I do not have yeast issues! But I have chronic inflammed bowel, so for me it is logical that some of the bacteria from probio penetrates into the bloodstream due to a possible leaky gut and the herx-like reaction is a reaction of the body against the bacteria. This is only a hypothesis...

Thanks for the replies. Hmmm....leaky gut seems to make sense. The herx reactions are not typical candida die off. However, it could be a herx from some type of fungal infection. I took much less yesterday (only 1-2 billion) and I wasn't as bad.

Candida is a fungal infection.

Hello thank you for your post about this. I seem to be going through something similar. I developed a terrible looking rash from taking a yeast detox supplement I went to the Dr. as soon as it started but it was before I realized what caused it so I took a bunch of unneeded antibiotics and steroids. I've tried several things and nothing helps. I really don't want to go back to the Dr. but I was reading that a prescription of fluconazole would clear it up in a couple days and was wondering if you had any advice about it or is it just going to heal on its own even though it has been several weeks now. Thank you for reading and any input is appreciated.

After receiving my order of Master Supplements (TruFlora, Theralac and TruBifido), I started by emptying some to lower the amount I was taking in. Maybe that's a no-no, but it semed to help me build up.

Still get a reaction when I am taking each, but it has gotten less and less. I believe I do have Candida with the rash I've been dealing with now for months. It has gotten somewhat better, but can still itch and burn some, at times. But I've learned starting off at full dose kicked my butt.

the rash is more likely a reaction of some kind to things going on in your gut

if it started when you were taking probiotics etc - as far as i can tell from what you have described - there is no indication it is fungal in nature

therefore - i do not think fluconazole is indicated or even a good idea for the rash - as that is used to treat systemic fungal infections - and there is no reason i can see to believe the rash is fungal

and taking the fluconazole could trigger more reactions in your gut - leading to more issues - not less

i personally would discontinue the supplement - and either wait it out for a couple of weeks and see if it resolves on its own - or if it gets worse anyway - go and see a doctor to have it checked out

Thank you all. Yeah I have a rash down there like all around the outside and past the underwear a little then it's really bad on my arms and back of hands and several spots all over. I discontinued taking the yeast detox supplement when I noticed the rash and I realize now maybe I shouldn't have stopped and I shouldn't have taken a full dose at first or at all. I think I have a leaky gut and didn't realize it before. It's just all been a mistake. The good thing is it doesn't itch. Its just really noticeable. Thank you again for your posts. I'm not sure what all medical conditions I have because I don't have a regular dr. but am working on getting one
