I personally think it's important to do treatment prior to LDI. There's not enough research to know if when the auto-immune response is turned off if your body can then control the bacteria load. It may be great for people with a high amount of leftover auto-immune issues, or, for someone to try if they are just not having luck with anything else!
Dr. V told me directly via skype that nobody really knows for sure how this is working. Also, he's mentioned in interviews that he's had a VERY high success rate with those who have MS and treating with Lyme/Co-infection mix LDI. Not as much success with patients coming in with Lyme. I think that may be because Lyme is such a mixed bag and possibly Lyme is not presenting the primary symptoms. I feel this was my problem.
It is important to not be on abx or herbals while doing LDI so you can gauge if it's working or if you have a flare. I really wanted to give herbs and abx a try so I decided to temporarily stop LDI. I had some luck with the Borellia only mix (buzzing went away) but no results with the Bartonella only mix.
LDI is also offered for those who have Candida or even EBV. I just wish Dr. V was keeping track and publishing some research on this.
The autologous samples are most exciting to me and would save those that are really sick a lot of time and effort in figuring out what is really making them sick. Whatever is in your stool/urine/etc is sterilized and added to the enzyme and given sublingual. So it could be EBV, Candida, Lyme/Co, Myco, CPN, mold, or even some bacteria/virus we don't know about
yet. I am planning on trying this if I still have symptoms after a year of treatment.
