Sorry to hear that you've got infection. How did that cat bite you :(
I hope you will be better soon!
It's a sad story. My little orange tabby polydactyl kitty (who was the sweetest little guy) all of a sudden lost the use of his back legs Thursdsy night. We were in the family room and I looked at him trying to drag his back legs that were limp. I picked him up but he was restless...so put him down again...still paralyzed and then he started crying really loudly - sounds I have never heard before - within 10 minutes he was panting, tongue hanging out..so I grabbed the phone and phone book - called the Vet on call and while I was talking to the Dr...my little guy bit into my arm a few times. I put him down and he bit the phone book - while crying loudly..then he started to bite his front toes. He was clearly in a lot of pain.
Rushed him to the vet and he immediately sedated him...and told us the bad news. He was quite confident our kitty had a "saddle thrombus" - which starts with a heart issue, then a blood clot goes down the artery that feeds the blood to the hind legs and lodges at the junction where it splits into the two legs. The loss of blood flow causes paralysis and extreme pain.
He said 25% chance he will survive the event...BUT he will still be paralyzed and maybe if we are able to do physical therapy on his legs ourselves..and manage his pain with morphine, he might improve...but high chances he has another one.. He said the compassionate thing to do is "let him go". His back legs were limp and cold.
I couldn't believe my ears - he was a healthy indoor cat - no signs of heart disease...the best kitty I have ever had...followed me around all the time...has been my company the past three years while I spent so many hours alone...when I was at my worst. I shed many tears on his beautiful orange fur and he would just lay with me, purring softly.
So my husband and I said goodbye to him...the Dr.gave him the shot and he passed away.
Losing him broke my heart.. But it would be cruel to have him suffer anymore pain.
I am devastated - I've had a bad few years ...one thing after another.
I keep saying it's time for good things to happen...and then something else hits me...alright already!!
