Hi everyone, I received my results from Igenex, and it said i was positive for Band 41. It says it could mean clinical significance but says you need two positive bands to be Lyme. Not sure what this could mean. Is there a chance I could still have Lyme? I have odd neurological and weird psychological symptoms all the time with no answers from docs. If someone could point me in the right direction, i'd appreciate it. Thanks

Welcome Arauz. Sorry you had to find us because that means you suspect you have lyme disease.

We ask all new people to be sure and read our first thread "New To Lyme .... Start Here!" It is very full of information.

As for your Igenex test, did you go to an LLMD to get this test? What are your symptoms and how long have you had them. Did you have a tick bite and did you get the rash?

Just a test doesn't give us much information. Many a lyme diagnosis is based on clinical diagnosis and does not rely on a blood test.

I am so sorry you are searching for answers and all I did was give you questions, but we need more information to process what you are going through.

One test I did to see where I stood was this test: lymeontario.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/03/Horowitz-Questionnaire.pdf

Hi arauz - welcome to our community!

Yes, you could still have lyme - even with a negative test result. The testing is lacking to say the least...and produces many false negatives.
LLMD's should be doing clinical diagnoses - and using the test results only as a back-up.

Did you have any IND bands? If so, could you type out your results so we can see them?

IND bands - although not strong enough to be labelled a positive - are still significant - we call them a weak positive.

Thanks for the replies, much appreciated.

Alright I have the most bizarre symptoms. I get face pain and pain/unbearable sensations in my testicle but I can get those sensations in my feet legs etc, there just in my right testicle most of the time, and they are totally unbearable(ultrasound on testicle was normal). Like I even feel all this stuff in my sleep its so intense. Also I get hot cold type burning throughout my body. I also get like extreme itchiness like a burning itch all over my body but its like inside bc theres no rashes or anything.

I also get weird psychological symptoms like I will feel like i have to twitch or click my toes together hard to explain. I get OCD that comes and goes, like I can have it for a week really bad then its pretty much gone for sometimes months and comes back. The pain in my face and testicle is severe, I’ve been off work for a while and no one can help me, I sometimes don’t want to go on. Doctors give me tramadol, doesn't really help sometimes it takes the edge off, same with ativan(lorazepam). Over the years all my symptoms have gotten progressively worse and I am very desperate. All these symptoms would come and go now they are more severe and aren't going away.

Oh, I had brain MRI which showed over 41 lesions and also a small pituitary tumour but they say thats not causing my symptoms, and they ruled out M.S.

It says one positive double star band may indicate clinical significance. We recommend testing by another method such as PCP, or Lyme Dot Blot.

So do you guys think I should try the other tests Igenex wrote on the report? Maybe I get my spinal fluid tested for the lyme blot dot test bc it says sometimes it doesn't show up in blood work and it shows up hides in bones or brain etc.

As for my results I got:
IGM Results
18 kDa. -
**23-25 kDa -
28 kDa -
30 kDa -
** 31 kDa -
** 34 kDa -
**39 kDa -
**41 kDa +
45 kDa -
58 Kda -
66 kDa -
**83-93 Kda -

Also on one of the other pages it says my IgG ** 41 kDa was IND, with all others negative .
So basically my IgG band was IND and my Igm was positive.
Thanks again.

I think with all the tests you have done you still need to see a LLMD. Lyme disease is a clinical diagnosis and ONLY a lyme doctor is likely to diagnosis this.

Do you have a lyme doctor?

Sometimes lyme disease does cause lesions on the brain...and is often misdiagnosed as MS.

I wouldn't have a spinal tap done...it's not a good test for lyme disease.

Because of your symptoms, I would see a LLMD for an evaluation.

I haven't a seen Lyme disease doctor. I live in Ontario, Canada. I don't think there are any actual LLMD around here. One thing I need clarification on, I did some research and it says: '41 is often the first significant band to show when one has been infected w/ Lyme, as well as the others listed above. So this band (41) does not necessarily indicate Lyme, altho it does indicate a spirochetal infection. '

So basically, even if I don't have Lyme i have some sort of bacteria infection?

I also a read on an older thread on this site with a poster saying "If you had even the "Ind" on one of the Lyme specific bands, then your likelihood of it being Lyme goes way up"

I had positive on one and IND on another. I think i really need to see a Lyme Doctor.

Your symptoms sound like Lyme. I know some drs will treat just based on band 41. Band 41 cross reacts with syphilis. Did you get tested for that? Although I don't think your symptoms are the same.

I would definitely go to a llmd.

I hope you get better soon. I know you must be scared.

arauz - you had a + on IgM 41 and a IND on IgG 41 - they aren't lyme specific bands...but I wouldn't get caught up in the testing.
The LLMD's recognize that the testing is poor, and the need for a clinical diagnosis.

I also live in Canada (BC).

You do have options:
1) Travel to the U.S. for a LLMD
2) Stay in Ontario and get treated by a LLND
3) I have a name of an MD in Ontario that is 'lyme friendly'
4) Travel to BC.

The last option might not seem like a good choice - I have been recommending my LLND in the Vancouver area - as even though the airfare is costly - after his initial consult, he does several phone or Skype appointments. I've only seen him a few times since I've been treating for the past 18 or so months.
But, one member went to him with an overall IND Igenex test result...and he wouldn't treat her.
So, I don't think seeing my LLND would be a good choice..unless you consulted over the phone first to see if he would treat based on your Igenex test results.

But, there may be other LLND's who do treat via Skype/phone.

If you email me, I will give you the names I have in Canada.
