Right - most Lyme disease patients know this. At most it's taught that Lyme is a nuisance disease (not true), not that it can and does cause great disability and even death (with the exception of Lyme carditis for some schools). It's taught that it's easily cured with a couple of weeks of abx (not true), and more.
Unfortunately, not many doctors understand this. Lyme patients are very hard on the doctor that's not educated, simply because we often are forced to learn more than the doctors know about
I had to explain how poor the testing was and why to my husband's doctor in order to get him the right treatment early on so he wouldn't end up with chronic Lyme as well. This took place just 2 years ago.
Imagine how they will all feel when it's finally revealed, accepted and acknowledged just how wrong they were, and how many patients that they have been treating (or turning away) actually do have chronic Lyme. We have a small handful of LLMD's that got into treating Lyme because of a family member that had been infected, but some have 'come to it on their own'.
