The testing for these infections is very faulty, so don't worry about
any negative tests. The tests are not very sensitive and the ELISA or IFA can miss up to 70% of those that are tested - even though they have the infection, and the Western Blot can miss up to 50% of those that are tested even though they have the infection. The advantage of the Western Blot is that 'bands' are reported and if you have a positive on a Lyme specific band, then there's no doubt that you have Lyme at that point.
These tests all rely on antibodies being produced, yet Lyme inhibits (lowers) the immune function so that it can't produce enough (or sometimes any) antibodies to the bacteria. That's why even the CDC says: "Lyme disease is diagnosed based on symptoms, physical findings (e.g., rash), and the possibility of exposure to infected ticks. Laboratory testing is helpful if used correctly and performed with validated methods." :www.cdc.gov/lyme/
They leave out a LOT of information and get even more wrong, but that's because it's a massive political fight that's going on. A lot more insects besides ticks carry and pass these infections on to people as well.
