Well, the infection can be brought down to levels where the immune system can keep it under control. The only time we can say that the infection can be eradicated is during the very first few weeks of infection, IF the appropriate treatment is used.
I've been to that point one time - then I got under too much stress and my adrenals and thyroid crashed - bringing down my immune function and I got bit again by a tick (in town no less!!!!) and that's why I'm back in treatments again. Had I been capable of managing the stress better, none of this may have happened. Lesson learned - but it was stress that I couldn't avoid at that time, as my FIL was dying of Alzheimer's and hubby and I moved him in with us as the rest of the family just wanted to ship him off to a nursing home - which was his biggest fear his entire life. So, lesson learned, but I still wouldn't have done anything differently other than being more careful and supportive of my own body.
Lyme carditis can strike at any time, even in the first stages of Lyme infection. It's all about
what the weak points are in the body. The Lyme bacteria is capable of seeking them out (even if we didn't have any reason to suspect it to be weak in any area), and will attack that area.
