Hi Daisies, would you mind telling what all he was put on for viruses (that is helping)? I am trying to fight off internal shingles, have tried lobelia (seems to help, had quite a herx) and lysine, also valtrex (not sure it did anything) . now my new naturopath wants me to take acyclovir plus monolaurin. I think I will take the monolaurin plus the lobelia, just not sure I want to take more Valtrex or Acyclovir. What kind of monolaurin are you using?
So sorry that I almost missed this! My apologies! I haven't been on as much lately.
Here is another one of my prior threads that had more details on what we used.https://www.healingwell.com/community/default.aspx?f=30&m=3655651
In summary, we did this from the naturopath:
* ViraCon - 1-2 capsules 2x/day
* Monolaurin - 1 capsule 2x/day <-- BRAND : Ecological Formulas Monolaurin
* Lysine - 1000 mg 1x/day *
(*Using Lysine Extra which is 800mg for 2 capsules -- was planning on doing 1 pill 2/day.)
We did that for awhile. We went on/off monolaurin. He hasn't reacted to monolaurin when I tried again the last few times. So, I guess it's like peeling the layers of an onion. My NP/LLMD wanted him on a pharmaceutical anti-viral, so we did some rounds of acyclovir. I can't say that it did much for him. Perhaps we didn't do it as high or as long as they wanted. Then our new clinic threw some herbals at the viruses.
It's been awhile since I have been reading about
viruses, but have you looked into oregano oil for shingles (I think that's what I read awhile ago)? If you use that one, I'd be very cautious about
using it. I have it in my cupboard but haven't worked up the courage to use it personally yet though.
Just wondering if you looked into that too?
Let me know if you have any questions! And I sincerely apologize for the delay in my response!
Also, if you read any of Pirouette's posts on viruses, she was an excellent resource for viruses too.
And good for you and your doctors for looking into viruses! They are often overlooked unfortunately. And obviously hard to treat/manage too.Daisies, No need to be sorry, thank you so much for the reply. I have not tried oregano oil. I was diagnosed with the shingles in Sept, by a functional MD actually- who just needed to listen to my symptoms to tell- and she was correct, my varicella IgG count was 2700, was too late to see IgM antibodies. She is the one who recommended lobelia, and I also took lomatium. They are both good antivirals (worth trying if you have not) , and both caused worsening of symptoms right away but the lobelia really hit me hard. She also had me taking 8000mg of lysine daily. In Jan I started the lyme antibiotics ( was dignosed by J clinic last June but they surprisingly wouldn't treat me until I was seen by a rheumatologist for low positive ANA) but, in addition to symptoms flaring, i quickly began to get very high fevers and so I have that on hold because I needed to function to move and take care of my one dog who has cancer. So my new Dr has me easing back into things, trying to not make me very sick. I have decided to keep taking the lobelia, added in Japanese Knotweed (have you tried that?) and added the lauricidin that the new Dr gave me, plus I am taking 6000mg lysine. My count had gone down to around 1800 when the new Dr had it checked a couple months ago, so I am going to have her check it again in a couple weeks to see what has happened. I'm not sure if lyme is keeping me from kicking the virus or what exactly.
Interestingly also, J clinic assigned a new PA to me in Nov, and she was not concerned with the fact that I had such a high varicella load and also experienced herxheimer reactions to the antivirals. I even asked her to ask Dr J himself about
it all. She said his opinion was no different than hers. She was shocked that the original PA would not start me on treatment until I saw the rheumatologist.
This whole thing has been so frustrating, and I have yet to take an Igenix test to see if I can get something positive (other than band 41, which is all that I've had on 2 generic western blots). Part of me is afraid of it coming back negative because at this point, lyme and co explains everything, with the added bonus of the varicella of course
Sorry for the long drawn out response. I really have wanted to post on here to get some opinions on things, but it's overwhelming to even think about
putting everything down so that people can understand and follow! I have been reading here religiously since last June though and am so grateful for all of the information.
Thank you again for the information
