I made a post yesterday about a new tick bite that what on me for 2 days. The tick head got stuck in my skin and I had to go to the ER to get it removed.

Now I'm wondering what is the best antibiotic to take and for how long. Is Doxy really the best? I have bad GI trouble from it. Does anyone know if Zithromax or Minocycline are as effective with a new bite? I want to take the most effective antibiotic but I don't want bad GI issues with it.

My Lyme Doc wrote me a script for Zithromax and said that 5 days should be enough. This seems way to short. Shouldn't I take it for at least a month?

I know LLMD's are still prescribing Doxy for new tick bites...but if you already have chronic lyme (are you in remission...or still treating?)...not sure.

I do know someone (a teenager) who was treated with zithro for a recent bite + symptoms.
It worked for him...but that was only about 6 months ago....time will tell.

He also did short-term - I think it was 6 days....Which for him (because he had symptoms) was not long enough. I'm hoping that because zithro has a long half-life that he will be okay long-term. I tried to gently tell his mother it wasn't enough.

If I were you, I would try and get more....one month is recommended for a tick bite...no symptoms.

Thanks, is there any harm in taking doxy for a while and then switching to zithro? I want to try doxy but I don't know how long my body can take it. Or is it better to stick with just one for the full month?

I would take doxy and zithro. Maybe doxy daily...and pulse zithro 3 days a week.
