I just took a peek at the Hawaii Pharm Red Sage and note that it's a 1:3 preparation with no indication of alcohol content....and part of the liquid is not only water and alcohol but, glycerin.
Copied and pasted from the Amazon page for Hawaii Pharm Red Sage:
"We strictly use only organic or ethically sourced wild harvested material, organic alcohol, vegetable glycerin and crystal clear water!"
And, in the product descript
"Red Sage (Salvia miltiorrhiza) is an herbaceous perennial native to China. The "red" part of its name comes from the red color of the roots; the flowers themselves are large, fragrant clusters of purple or violet.
I'm not seeing specific information that their Red Sage comes from the US....
Buhner's books "Herbal Antibiotics" and "Herbal Antivirals" indicate the "recipes" for the various herbs he recommends. (recipe being something like 1:5 50% with the 50% indicating the percentage of alcohol in the preparation).
He writes that it's important to use grain alcohol in appropriate percentages to maximize the number of constituents extracted from the herbs.
The tinctures I've bought from Woodland Essence, Sage Woman and Montana Farmacy are made with the same "recipes" as those listed by Buhner.
The bottle of Red Sage I bought from Woodland Essence shows that it's made in a 1:5 60% alcohol preparation.
There is clearly a difference between the Hawaii Pharm preparations and those made by Buhner's recommended sources.
How that translates into anyone's healing is obviously individual. We each need to decide what we want to try....and we can always change our mind.
