Blue - oil of oregano can burn the skin (and underlying areas of tissue) as well. I was 'stranded*' and couldn't get to a doctor when I got a brown recluse bite. It started expanding - like like the nasty pictures show!!! - and so I knew I had to do something. The only thing I had on hand was oil of oregano. It worked, but it did burn worse that any burn I've ever had - and I've had some pretty nasty 3rd degree burns!
I would put it on the bite, then stomp around the house - not in anger, but because it burned so very much!!! But, it did save my leg and the muscles under the skin!! I only have a very small (slightly smaller than a dime now) scar left from it is all.
*back story. I was "stranded" because my last husband had just passed away, and I was home alone with my two young kids (13 & 15) at the time, and neither of them knew how to drive, so they couldn't take me to the ER or the doctors. I had been going through old paperwork for insurance and other stuff after he had passed when I got the bite. Later that night (lucky me) I was up to go to the bathroom, and tripped over the sleeping dog, and smashed the bridge of my nose on my dresser - giving me a concussion. I've had enough of these to know what they feel like, so I knew better than trying to drive myself in.
Anyway - ALL of that, just to say, do be careful with the oil of oregano. You may need to go in to have it checked because of the secondary burn you gave yourself using the oil of oregano.
I prefer to use aloe to treat burns. But - if there is any indication of an infection setting in, then do PLEASE get to a doctor!!
