Yes, I have much too experience with this. I realized a year+ ago that I was dealing with systemic yeast issue. I self-addressed it last year by going after it. I've learned a lot in my journey.
Symptoms? For me, I had headaches, migraines (related to my cycle), fatigue, brain fog, etc. I also had kidney pain too that would flare up over strange things and not so strange things (sugar).
After I went after the yeast, all of my symptoms decreased or went away. My kidney pain, which was my biggest concern, is doing really good nowadays.
It took me a year, but I finally got my well-meaning doctor to test the strain. I actually have a strain called saccharomyces cerevisiae, which ironically can be caused by supplementing with saccharomyces boulardii.
I use to be positive about
s. boulardii, but now, I am not. I think it's way over hyped. It has it's place. But unfortunately, most of the sites do not warn about
the possible effect that s. boulardii can cause a non-candida strain overgrowth. Please use s. boulardii with caution, as it may help one yeast issue but cause another strain overgrowth which is not popular and widely recognized (thus, harder to treat, in my opinion).
Most sites will refer to it as "candida", but that's very misleading since candida isn't the only strains (eg saccharomyces can have overgrowths too). I now refer to it generally as systemic "yeast" infection. (Technically, one of my doctors said it's not an infection but a "colonization" instead - bleck.)
I have posted about
this frequently on this board. If you search for saccharomyces cerevisiae, you will find my threads on that strain specifically and my battles with getting help from doctors on that.
Here is my current plan for this year (I've knocked it back last year but gave up too soon... it's still reduced but I want to make further progress to see how that affects my ongoing symptoms):www.healingwell.com/community/default.aspx?f=30&m=3802560
Personally, from my readings, I really want to combine the pure nystatin powder (to address the gut - which is theorized that if you don't address the yeast in the gut, it continue to re-spread), as well as various anti-fungal herbals to help anywhere/everywhere it can.
FWIW - 3 weeks of daily diflucan did nothing for me, but that's because I believe it's not as effective for my strain.
Best of luck! Honestly, I've found it more difficult to get help with the yeast issues than I have for our lyme/etc issues. Go figure!
Kid#1: Extremely sick for several years, very difficult to treat, but much better lately!
Kid#2: Very sick now despite being treated for years, very bad year
Kid#3: Doing great, minor relapse, but great again (ironically had least and shortest treatment)!
Me: Adv Labs positive 2016 (suspected I passed to my kids) - not as sick as others, mostly battling fatigue, kidney, heart, and yeast issues
