Before the invention of thyroid blood tests, doctors treated high cholesterol with thyroid hormone (low thyroid is a primary cause of elevated cholesterol). Lyme is famous for messing with our thyroids.
Have you had your thyroid thoroughly checked recently?
The TSH test isn't enough.
TSH is a pituitary hormone - everyone should have their actual thyroid hormone levels checked:
Free T4 T4 or thyroxine, free, direct
Free T3 tri-iodothyronine, free, serum
Healthy people have both the Free T4 and Free T3 levels in the upper half of the normal range...
Cd - That reminded me - that was something else my Dr said - she wanted my husband to get his thyroid meds and labs 'right' before we concerned ourselves with the cholesterol numbers. Thanks for reminding me.
