My llmd wants me to get on GSE. I realize it works on the cyst form. Who has had experience with this?

I did take it for several weeks early on - when I was on lyme only treatment.

I didn't notice anything.

It's very, very bitter (obviously) - but I was taking tincture.

Do you have pills...or capsules?

Buhner says that GSE doesn't make it out of the stomach/intestines, but I bought some to try anyway, as I have a lot of issues with my GI -I just need to finish up with something else first before I try the GSE - so I was wondering about the dose and schedule that you will be following with this as well? Also, do you know for how long your doc wants you to use it? I figured that if I did well with it, I would go for 30 days, then re-evaluate.

I've taken it frequently but never had any benefit from it that I could tell. But what possible benefit would be, I have no idea.

I take the drops. 20-30 a day. I don't know what the benefit is, but sometimes we don't feel the benefits of some of the things we take directly but hope that it's doing something.

For example, I was taking another form of b vitamins and I honestly didn't feel a thing from them---good bad or indifferent. However I started taking Thorne b's and still didn't feel much of anything. Well my doctor muscle tested me and said I needed 3 a day. Started taking 2 and boy do I feel a difference if I don't take them. Which reminds me...time to reorder 😊.

I have been taking it consistently since March 2011. In a short time I worked up to 20 drops twice a day mixed in with my ASV and Buhner tinctures. I can't say it makes a difference like most of my non-abx remedies, but it also suppose to help control candida, which for me has never been a serious issue. So even based on that and its relatively low cost, I keep using it.

I have an ND by me that swears by GSE - Citricidal (the max strength form) for Lyme treatment.

He told me that 75% of his patients with chronic lyme get better using just citricidal and samento for 10 weeks. After that if that does not work he continues both and adds in Banderol.

He told me to take pinella for my brain fog and I've gotta say, I think it's helping! Sometimes its hard to tell if its coincidence that symptoms improve or if the meds are improving symptoms.

Edit: If anyone is curious on dosage he says 2 drops of citricidal twice a day working up to 5 and 3 drops of samento twice a day working up to 20.

Hi Tick41 -

With the GSE used to kill cyst Bb forms, you'd probably feel similar herxing and/or benefits as you would another antimicrobial. Sometimes we don't always feel the killing going on in our bodies, while at other times it can feel like an avalanche.

GSE is also a reliable antifungal/anti-yeast remedy for many strains.

I happen to have DNA testing that showed my body doesn't process grapefruit seed extract very well. I found this out after using a couple of antimicrobial tinctures and having strange reactions to them (the soles of my feet and palms of my hands would get sweaty and clammy and also peeled drastically). The second time I took straight GSE tincture my lower legs and feet swelled up and became stiff and painful. I tried taking a capsule form and this time, I think it's causing my kidneys or adrenals to ache and in fact, might be tied to some adrenal issues I'm having… investigating it as we speak. Now, I don't know how common it is to have this particular DNA mutation but I thought I'd toss it into the conversation.

These reactions are why I've always felt Buhner's comments that GSE doesn't cross the mucosal gut barrier quite strange… it's definitely crossing mine (although I have had history of mucosal damage so maybe this indicates I still have some issues there??)

I took the Da Vinci brand capsules. Def made me herx. I agree with Pirouette, I have a lot of respect for Buhner but my intuition was that the GSE was penetrating beyond my gut. Of course that is my own experience and frankly I can't corroborate any of that it is just an intuition I have about my own personal experience. On another subject with Buhner he seems to say that bartonella doesn't cause herxes which I really doubt at least for my own case I think that it is bartonella that is leading to many of my herx issues.

It might be in Horowitz's book but from what I seem to remember is that he keeps treatments with GSE pretty short, maybe 4 weeks on then take a break from the GSE. I forget why. I'll try and look it up. Has anyone else heard of this idea of limiting GSE to relatively short treatment intervals?

Yes, limiting any treatment to a relatively short term has been a necessity FOR ME, due to my body developing intolernce to like EVERYTHING! the gene mutation for detoxing aka methylation, IS A HUGE roadblock!

Mcspike, what so you mean by limiting your treatment? Are you doing anything for your methylation problems???

I think he means the GSE and many other herbal protocols for yeast/fungus issues need to be rotated or used short-term as the yeast/fungus can grow resistant. It's also true for pharmaceuticals but less so.

This seems highly, highly unlikely unless his sample size is extremely small. Does he treat many lyme patients?

How were your results after testing it?
