I recently tested positive for lyme(Borrelia burgdorferi F7 and Bartonella henselae) and my doctor recommended the following:
Ceftin: 250mg two, twice daily (build up to it)
Doxycycline: 100mg 1x for 4 days, then one 2x/day.
Tinadazole: 500mg one 2x/day for 3 days, then 4 days off
Probiotic-3(AOR) one 2x/day in between meals
He wants me on for 6 weeks. (I've noticed symptoms for about 2 years, was really bad, had gotten better through diet, but still have a lot of fatigue, some dizzyness/brain fog)
EWOT and ozone therapy were also recommended.
I'm just learning about lyme, and would love any insights into the protocol he suggests for treating it.
Hi atxlyme - you've been given some great information and help from the members.
Generally doxycycline is given in higher dosages (200 mg twice daily)...but given the fact that it's combined with the Ceftin...and pulsing Tinidazole - maybe it's enough? Or, your LLMD is starting you off low...and will increase later.
Ceftin is a good med for lyme. i found them to be difficult on the throat. Mine were 'soft' and seemed to start dissolving on the back of my tongue. I had to eat right after taking it.
Good to see that your LLMD has you starting off low...and increasing the antibiotics...that will help make them more tolerable.
I doubt he thinks 6 weeks will be enough - I'm thinking he just wants to evaluate how you're doing after 6 weeks?
