So I've been feeling pretty good. I Herx a little on the days I take my Tinidazole, but that's to be expected. Here's the only thing driving me nuts. I wake up at about 2:00 and 5:00 every morning feeling a little wired, almost anxious. Sometimes I'l get nauseous. It will pass eventually and I will fall back asleep. But it's been happening every night (morning). I do take WP Thyroid at a low dose. Just had my thyroid levels checked again, and they are great. i have also had every cortisol/adrenal test under the sun (24 hour, ACTH Stim, etc.) all normal. I haven't changed up anything in my protocol. Here's what I'm taking:

Ceftin (500mg / twice a day)
Doxy (100mg / twice a day)
Tinidazole (500mg / twice a day), pulsed MTW
Sunflower Lecithin (Phosphatidyl Choline)
Omega-3
Multi- vitamin
Multi-Mineral
Desiccateed Liver
Saccharomyces boulardii - alternate days with other probiotic
MegaSporeBiotic (probiotic) - alternate days with Saccharumyves boulardii

With your thyroid and cortisol levels being fine, how are your nervous system symptoms? It may be related to that.

Just to be sure, they have checked your pituitary gland as well? There could possibly be an issue with that still.

My nervous system seems to be OK. That's never been a big symptom for me. I had an MRI of my adrenals and pituitary gland at the beginning of the year, and they were fine. (Before I had a diagnosis, my GP was ruling out tumors, MS, etc.).

I thought maybe blood sugar, but I've tried getting up and eating an orange, and it made no difference. I'm stumped.

Try eating some protein instead.

Something else you can try (just in case it is your adrenals) is taking a teaspoon of honey, and adding a bit of salt on top and eating that just before you go to bed. I know that at times, I actually have a craving for that, and I've had Addison's (slowly climbing back out of that hole). It's supposed to help the adrenals, but I don't remember exactly how yet - I'm still waking up. Sorry!!!

Hello mm57553,

I was just hopping on to check for something else and saw your post, so I don't know much about you or your journey (so forgive me if I'm passing on redundant things or telling you things you are well aware of!), but I will pass on the things I've been taking that seem to have stopped that middle of the night anxious mind for me.

I do have low adrenal function (and low thyroid), and yet I began having relief from what you are describing when the following were added to my protocol by my MD (and before I added adrenal and thyroid support):

Kavinace ultra PM - neurotransmitter help. It has a precursor to GABA, and other calming and sleep-inducing things (including melatonin). I give myself a good 10 hours or so from when I take it to when I will need to be awake, if I'm needing to function any the next day, as it does make you drowsy and if you are up and in light too early, you will feel nauseous as it also has melatonin (which makes me feel nauseated if I am exposed to light when my body is drowsy on melatonin).

https://www.pureformulas.com/kavinace-60-capsules-by-neuroscience.html

I also added progesterone at night - I'm postmenopausal- and I also use topical low dose testosterone and estrogen in the morning, but the added nighttime progesterone is what my MD says to keep taking for that anxious feeling (in addition to the Kavinace).

I added Neuro-mag (Life Extension) a month or so later at bedtime as I was waking again occasionally with that racing mind. It crosses the blood-brain barrier to feed the brain, but is controversial in Lyme world as magnesium is used by pathogens - Buhner says the bugs will get what they need and so we might as well take it because our bodies need it so much (magnesium). It seemed to be just the thing to keep me sleeping well.

I've also felt that has a connection to my body detoxing at night and I've occasionally done epsom salt baths before bed to get some calming magnesium into my body (and bypassing the gut where the bugs like to use it), especially if I feel my body is detoxing/herxing more than it might be able to process.

As for detoxing/processing all the toxic byproducts, I'm using Pekana remedies (Itires, Renelix, Apo-Hepat), bentonite clay and charcoal (mold toxicity) and liposomal glutathione. I'm sure several of the herbs I'm taking also contribute to detoxing and processing of toxic stuff. When I keep up with all the detox things and keep things moving well, AND take the bedtime stuff, I sleep pretty well and even fairly restorative. I do usually wake up to use the bathroom, but have been generally drifting right back to sleep afterwards.

Hope that is helpful!

Holy crap. I was searching to see what effects Tinidazole had on cortisol levels/sleep issues, because I was on Tinidazole and my sleep was bad- I was waking up wired 3-5am, and got off Tinidazole for a bit and sleep got a bit better, got back on recently and sleep all the sudden is back to how it was- I woke up at 4am today completely wired after just 5 hours of sleep.

Seems like others have experienced similar: http://flash.lymenet.org/scripts/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=get_topic;f=1;t=037627;p=0&r=actu
