Ok so I decided to take an epsom salt bath tonight. Filled the tub and put 3 cups of epsom salt in it. Not realizing that I should have checked the Water temp, I got in and it was HOT. I sat in it for 20 minutes.

When I got out, man did I feel like poop!!! Shakes, tremors, fatigue, dizziness, Pretty much all my symptoms intensified!!!

Now I have not experienced a herx ever and I've been treating 2 months.

Was this a herx from the bath?? What's this mean?

I'm laying on the couch cu I'm afraid to get up

You don't want them to be HOT...just warm...

You should start out with shorter amount of time..like 5 minutes and you can increase as time goes on.

Yes, you can herx from too hot and too long of time spent.

Just rest - hope it subsides soon!

Do you have any charcoal? You could take some of that with plenty of water.
This will flush out the toxins.

I know they say no to hot baths, but I take hot Epsom salt baths and dont react to them at all. They are mildly soothing, and I do not herx from them. Go figure.

Sounds like a herx for you. Hope it passes soon for you!! Hang in there!!!
Kid#1: Extremely sick for several years, very difficult to treat, but doing great now!
Kid#2: Very sick now despite being treated for years, still very bad
Kid#3: Generally good but relapsing off/on.
Me: Adv Labs positive 2016 (suspected I passed to my kids)-not as sick as others, mostly battling fatigue and yeast issues (heart/kidney issues resolved)
Treating with herbals now.

I should mention Kid#2 reacts strongly negatively to Epsom salt baths. I gave up on them for him. They made him feel worse every time.
I did Epsom salt hydrogen peroxide foot soaks for him. At first, he couldn't even handle those, but eventually he did.

Very important to take a binder~~ 2 hours away from anything. I have the Vitacost brand.

I am sorry but I had to chuckle about your first epsom salt bath. It reminded me of my first soak. It, too, was hot and I stayed in 20 minutes. I barely made it to my chair. Felt absolutely horrible but it only lasted about an hour. Lesson learned! The heat was killing the bacteria. I haven't had a problem with all my other soaks. Yes, for the foot baths. The water cools off pretty fast but I usually soak the feet 15 to 20 minutes. I sometimes do 2 or 3 a day when herxing.

Was this your first epsom bath?

It should get better the more you do them. This was probably the first major unloading of toxins. Epsom baths (or foot soaks), works so well that it can have this affect.

But later on after you do it more consistently it actually should make you feel better (it does for me).
Positive for Lyme (Igenex), Ehrlichia (Igenex), and Mycoplasma (Labcorp)

I use capsules of activated charcoal - and just buy one from our local health food store.

I usually take two caps at a time - but you need to drink LOTS of water - it can be constipating. I found out the hard way - pun intended. tongue

Charcoal is a binder ..it soaks up toxins in the gi...and i think that unless the bath was above 106 it really wasnt killing lyme ..just increasing circulation and mobilizing toxins ...the bugs also use magnesium to build their biofilm but we need it too.when i first did iv mag i got all flush and hot....

Yes - I agree - that does make sense

Using charcoal (or another binder) will mop up the toxins in the gut so they don't get absorbed into the blood stream

DS had horrible herxes from magnesium in any form initially and had to wait 6 months before really taking it. I think the oil spray caused the least herx and capsules the worst. He did love foot baths though when he was already herxing from meds. I would only slip him magnesium when he was already sick from herxing - bad mama I know, but felt he needed to get it even if not regularly.
Parent of teen DS w/ CDC+ Lyme test Nov 2015, late stage Lyme + mycoplasma, bartonella, babesia. Currently treating with antibiotics/anti-malerials, multivitamin, magnesium, CBD oil.

Yancync, how is your DS doing this summer/lately? Are you ready for the next school year?
Just wondering how things are going on your side. smile

Oh, it completely varies. Honestly, we don't time it. I would guess on average 10-15 minutes maybe? Sometimes shorter or longer depending on whether the kid is watching something interesting or not on his electronic. smile

Yes, I will put in Epsom salt, hydrogen peroxide, water and sometimes essential oils in it. One positive with the EOs is that is cleared up a wart on his foot. smile

Here is my thread about his experience some time ago.
www.healingwell.com/community/default.aspx?f=30&m=3682911

Also, I did an "experiment" with the kid who couldn't handle the Epson salt baths. Basically, over some days, I would change up what I was doing to see if I could narrow down what exactly he was reacting to. He handles them fine now and does not get worse after them anymore. Admittedly, we haven't retried a tub though. We do these infrequently nowadays.
But here is the results of my non-scientific experiment back when he was reacting to them.

He was "worse" after the foot soak with the following:
* just Epsom salt
* just Epsom salt in lukewarm water
* just hydrogen peroxide
* Epsom salt and hydrogen peroxide
* Epsom salt, hydrogen peroxide, essential oils

I even did a just water, nothing added, and he said he felt the same, which is first time he said that with all of the foot soaks.
It is important to note that he had no idea I was changing things or what I was doing. smile

@ 1000Daisies - Hi! He's doing great so far - no true fatigue days even after late nights and travel. He is so much better that he was offered a scholarship to play lacrosse at a private high school that is a long drive from our house so it is so hard to know what to do. We weren't considering private at all. He would like to go but the expense and drive and challenge will be there but it would be a much better environment for him overall. The school is aware of his situation. He missed 1 day a week of freshman year last year but is so healthy over the summer. I don't know how he'd survive if he misses 1 day a week at a private.

He had an easy outdoor job this summer so plenty of fresh air and sun plus lots of days off, flew on an airplane and lived a week at a higher altitude without a herx and so on, stayed up late for a week at beach and needed extra sleep but could get up. All good.

Fingers crossed that he is better this winter than last! How are your kiddos? I see you still have one struggling - I'm sorry for that. Sometimes it seems like 2 steps forward and 3 back.
