Avoiding nightshades is so sad when your diet is so restricted already. I did it anyway, just in case. That's one of the main food groups to avoid when being on the AIP (Autoimmune Protocol).
I would actually have to assess if it was the elimination of nightshades that made me feel better. I also eliminated at the same time eggs, cheese, grains (regular consumption of quinoa and buckwheat), making it difficult to distinguish what was the reason of improvement. So among the foods that I plan to reintroduce first are tomato and peppers.
I just googled the Autoimmune protocol diet. This link shows the "allowable" Paleo diet foods that are forbidden on the AIP diet. Wow- there seriously is not much left to eat! That would be an issue. /www.thepaleomom.com/start-here/the-autoimmune-protocol/
I did three months of Whole30 diet which is a little more restrictive than just Palio , but not like AIP diet. In those three months one autoimmune antibody previously elevated for 20 years normalized. I have added only few things back in moderation after the original three month (G/F non-GMO grains), in month nine right now. I ate sweet peppers, sweet potatoes, tomatoes and nuts the whole time and that antibody still improved. I avoided hot peppers and regular potatoes.
Seems like milk products, gluten, small seeds and sugar were are the most important ones for me to avoid. I tried Kerfir three times this week- and got a mini stomach ache each time. All forms of milk still hate me.Yes, it sucks. I know that what kills me is anything that turns into sugar. I don't think dairy, nightshades, or eggs, have ever been an issue for me, I eliminated them just in case to decrease all inflammation to the max and have my system resurface with more ease. At some point I even went further than the AIP with the restrictions. It's been very intense. But now that the inflammation has decreased I started reintroducing certain foods.
