I seem to remember my LLMD saying that fruit was ok to eat because the fiber in the fruit "cancels out" the sugar in the fruit. Has anyone else heard of this? She may have said eating a protein would cancel out the sugar, i cant recall.
Your LLMD may be referring to the "Net Carbs" of fruit:
Total Carbs - Fiber = Net Carbs
This is what a former Integrative Doctor told me, back around 2009. That was around the time of the hysteria about
carbohydrates was starting.
Anyway, the fiber in food helps blunt the glucose/insulin response. Also, the fiber in food helps to feed your gut bacteria.
Remember what Michael Pollan wrote: "Eat food. Not too much. Mostly plants." That's good advice.
