Girlie- I can't do IV therapies because I get blood clots from IVs even when I'm blood thinners.
The doctor told me there is no cure and he hates to be "Debbie downer". He told me this as we were discussing my treatment options and which abx I should try next. He also went on to say that I need to get creative and look at adding multiple alternative therapies along with the antibiotics.
I mean... I think we all know that Lyme often doesn't disappear completely, especially if we've been sick for years much in the same way that chickenpox hangs out in us for the duration of our lifetime. But we all pay so much $$ out of pocket for these physicians. And in addition to treatment options and support, the doctor should also give us hope-- not make us feel hopeless. So it was a bummer of a conversation.
But....I will get better. Just to spite him now
E - I am so sorry this conversation hit you so hard. I remember how I felt when my LLMD told me I would need about
18 mos of tx. Of course, that was 4 yrs ago - I really had no idea what I was in for.
I encourage you to look at this another way. Your LLMD is trying to be honest with you and up front about
your options. I agree 100% that Lyme is not "curable" but that isn't our goal. Our goal is to heal and get our immune system to dominate Lyme and everything else.
I think your MD was trying to tell you that there is no simple or tried-and-true approach for most people, and you must also have some complexities to work around - like most of us here have as well. And it also sounds like he is trying to
open up the conversation for a combined approach with multiple modalities, which is also what most of us here are doing.
He might not be able to give you much guidance about
other treatments so maybe this is his way of suggesting you lead/manage this part. Most of our Lyme experience is impossible for even the best LLMD to manage solely. My LLMD is also the best yet I'm really doing 50% of my tx on my own - THANKS TO THIS FORUM!
So don't worry at all - you'll get this figured out and we'll help you. You were smart to post - don't endure these thoughts by yourself.
