Will it do any good taking rifampin and bactrim together without minocycline or doxy on board?

My doctor suggested I add Bactrim to try to go after Bartonella a bit harder. I am already on Minocycline and Rifampin. I do not want to be on three medications at one time for various reasons. Would it do any good to be on Rifampin and Bactrim without minocycline?

Its hard to weigh out the risks/benefits of all these meds. But being a former c diff haver.... I think three antibiotics at one time could push things over the edge and put me at much greater risk for the infection again.

Is Bart your main issue?

My doctor is a heavy pusher of meds and he really thinks three intracellular drugs are needed to combat Bart. And he is probably right. But my body is too fragile right now to take on a third medication.

i have been on 3..doxy, bactrim ds, plaquenil, interfase plus (biofilms) for 5 months.

now he has me on rifamipin and Bactrim ds and interfase plus (just started yesterday)

Im ok with going slower because i need to work i have no choice.

i tested negative for Bart and positive for babesia...but im assuming my llmd treats all 3 B's so now im on bart treatment.

being on 3 abx is quite common in lyme land. i've done rifampin, bactrim and minocycline for many months pulsed 4 consecutive days on/3 consecutive days off. it was the most effective combo for me as it hits all 3 B's, penetrates the BBB, has intracellular penetration (babs/bart), is a biofilm buster and a persister drug.

i would jump back on this trifecta in a minute given its effectiveness against the pathogens. what you aren't hitting much here is the babesia or general parasites but that's not what this combo is really focused on but yes you will hit bartonella and babesia somewhat adding bactrim.

FYI i've been on bactrim for over a year and i know its effective for babs and bart.

maybe you want to talk to your LLMD about pulsing so the c-diff doesn't become an issue again.

Thanks!

I was on Bactrim a year ago along with Azithrumycin, Doxy and Mepron. It was very effective at that time.

I am also currently on Malarone (have been for over a year).

I am very torn about adding it or not for a couple of reasons:

1. C diff (As I already mentioned.... and I like the pulsing idea to try to minimize c diff potential)
2. I am leaving for hyperthermia treatment in January so I am not feeling super motivated to add a new drug right now
3. Considering adding herbal Bart protocols instead (Houttuniya, Side acute)

I was told to try mino/rifampin/tini for bart. I haven't because I'm worried about taking 3 also. I decided to do 2 weeks mino/rifampin and then 2 weeks mino/tini. I'm using about 6 herbs also.

I'm so tired of pills, the herbs are a relief.
pos for MTHTR single mutation; Positive Igenix IgG Jan 2017
March/Apr '17: doxy, Tinizadole. 5/1 samento and exchange mino for doxy. 5/28- switch mino back to doxy, added activated charcoal. 6/9 - stopped antibiox; staying with samento, red root and houttiya and supps. 7/10 added LDN; 8/24 rifampin, samento, red root and supps

Kat - many LLMD's have patients take Tini only a couple days per week. And one LLMD I know prescribes Tini to be taken 2 days per month only.

You could try that - take Mino/Rif daily and add Tini two days per week - maybe one or two weeks per month.

Ask your LLMD what he thinks about that.

I'll try and do it for a couple of weeks and see if it my stomach hangs in there. The rifampin usually makes my stomach hurt. The mino sometimes gives me a headache. But I'm hoping one last big push with antibiox and then herbals the rest of the way.
