I started NAC a few nights ago, just 600mg at night with dinner. Yesterday I noticed throughout the day I just felt a terrible amount of brain fog, and tiredness. These sx have always really been there with me, but not to this extent. I could barely get out of bed this morning.

I have read that NAC can do a lot.. bust biofilms, kill chlamydiae/mychoplasma and help the body produce glutathione which is why my doctor wanted me to start it.

Has anyone had this reaction to NAC and is that a good sign or bad?

I started Mepron/Zithromax two weeks ago so maybe I'm going through a babesia herx? I have seen no improvement whatsoever on that combo so far, but I hear most people see a turnaround about 6-8 weeks in?

Anyway, just feeling down about my progress lately and concerned about why I haven't seen any improvement in so long and am getting worse.

Oh Nic, so sorry. My "opinion" is to stop the NAC for a bit. Let things calm down and see if it is a herx from the meds. Then you can try the NAC again later.

My Mom had fibrotic lung disease and her lung specialist put her on NAC. I started doing NAC when I had such an awful cough. I can't say for sure it helped or not, but I did not have any ill effects from it.

Sad when you take so much stuff and you don't know what really helped or was it a combo of all the stuff, or was it that it just took some time for all of it to work? Questions I still have.

PeteZa,

Thank you so much for the info! I am so glad to hear from you and glad that you and your husband are doing so well! In my signature I have the Buhner herbs I am taking (I actually stopped Gou Teng because I don't feel it helped) but do you think I should add some or increase the dosage? I just wonder why they haven't really helped me all that much yet.

Nic, one of our old Moderators, named CD, went to one of Buhner's associates. He told her that she needed to take the herbs 4 times a day. I relied heavily on this Moderator for my healing. She really taught me most everything I know and she definitely shared her books with me.

He said that the lapses in the herb coverage was not good. In other words her herbs were not lasting from one dose to the next. That lapse in timing left room for the buggers to survive and replicate.

His advice to her was to take a little less and do it 4 times a day and then move up from there.

Red Sage and Skullcap could be added. And how about adding some Collagen. Remember add herbs in singularly and at a low dose working up.

For collagen I still use this in my coffee each morning. Old lady skin is not attractive. I swear lyme took the collagen and it is hard to get it back, and like I said, I'm aging too.

By the way, good for you stopping something that did not feel right. We don't tough things out with herbs. We listen to our body with herbs a LOT!

Thank you so much for the suggestions! I will go ahead and add in the Red Sage and Skullcap. I was actually on skullcap for awhile too then ran out and just have never bought again, but I will.

I also am starting Houttuynia when things get a little better.

As far as collagen goes, what brand do you get and how much do you put in your coffee?

And is working my way to 20 drops of everything 4x a day too much/not enough?

Thank you so so much!

Nic, dosage amounts are not set in stone. Buhner recommends (not a rule, just a recommendation) certain amounts.

Japanese Knotweed, I could drink it by the buckets and felt less than nothing. Hubby could only tolerate 15 drops. He is a big dude at 6'7" and I'm a puny 5'6". So size has nothing to do with dosages. It has to do with your tolerance. I generally would feel "off" and knew it was my limit. You just are your own guinea pig and it will take experimenting.

Buhner recommeds Great Lakes gelatin powder. I did that for awhile and then I found Hydrolyzed Collagen Peptides-Unflavored by Protein Essentials. I don't think you ever get to really know if it works or not. I had crepe skin and that was how I could see a difference.

Both hubby and I continue to do this collagen and probably will forever. It is good for joint health as we age.

a few weeks on a babesia protocol is really not enough time to gauge efficacy. and no one person is alike in terms of when you notice something. i'd do a minimum of 3 months before i judge the efficacy of something.

hard to tell if NAC is causing your issues or not given you just started babesia medicines. but yes NAC has many benefits so it's a good staple supplement to be on during this journey.

I've been taking NAC for a few months now at the direction of my ND and other than stinky urine I haven't noticed any side affects whatsoever. Other than assisting glutathione I didn't realize it antibacterial effects. I've been doing 1000mg/day in the morning.
