I'm going to see a well-known ID Doctor next week at the behest of my PCP. I expect they won't be Lyme-friendly but I figure there is no harm in going while I wait to find an LLMD. (And to please my PCP, who is otherwise a great, caring doctor).

If they decide to run tests, is there anything I should ask for, do you think? Anything similar to Lyme? (I already have an Igenex positive test).

I figure it's better to have them say "well, nothing to see here" and check that one off the list, than let anything go missed.

They generally wont/cant do anything more than a GP.

I dont know what your symptoms are but most of us have things in addition to lyme:

things to test:
EBV
All the variations of herpes viruses
Autoimmune
Candida antibodies
The general Lyme and bart tests they do are worthless.

The ID duck will probably say the IGeneX test is a false positive. Hope you have a low co-pay for this referral and you don't get docked for missing work. Otherwise the money should be saved to spend on real treatment under a real LLMD.

agree with tickbite outside general bloodwork and maybe if they have't done it yet have them do western blot/elisa and it doesn't cost you anything or very little you won't get any value out of seeing an ID.

Thanks for the replies! It won't cost me much besides a $30 copay, and I won't miss work. I didn't expect them to do much for me but figured it couldn't hurt.

Already tested negative for EBV, but not any Herpes viruses.

Also, unrelated question but didn't want to start another thread:

Today, I mindlessly took a couple of GSE pills while taking all my other supplements. But I'm out of Doxy.

Am I screwed?

You're concerned that you've busted some cysts...and the spirochetes are running wild now?

Do you have some buhner lyme herbs you can take....?

Haha yeah. I actually just found I had two Doxy pills left I missed, so I popped them.

Well here I come the positive pollyanna.

Just maybe your ID doc does have familiarity with lyme! I am hoping for that for you.

I would ask he/she questions. Have you ever treated lyme? How many cases? What type of protocol have you found beneficial? Is this protocol expensive?

Here is hoping it is a good doctor visit.

Thanks for the positive Peteza!

I went to see the ID Doctor last week. He was a very nice person, and was very thorough and listened to me. Didn't think I was crazy or anything. However, yes, he gave me the usual ID Doc answers. Told me it didn't fit Lyme, my tests don't mean anything - "I don't know what it is, but it isn't Lyme."

As I expected, but I can cross that off the list while I wait to get in at an LLMD. Such long wait lists...so much money.
