Merry Christmas!

I don't have much to write this morning, but this is the beginning of a conversation I had with Dr Amy Yasko several years ago. She has always been kind and polite but didn't have much to add. There is just so much literature and theory involved, she just said it was plausible. This was when I was still ill and not doing well. As it turned out, I do have a CBS enzyme issue. Here is part of my initial letter to her.

I have never had a U.A.A but I believe I have elevated ammonia and nitric oxide levels. I have had to eat a low protein diet for several years now and my joints constantly make a popping sound. References have shown that protozoans utilize arginine in their replication and arginine is also used to transport the polyamines through the cell membrane. I believe the plasmodiums bind directly to unbound spermidine and as the spermidine initiates the cytokine cascade, the immune cells attack and denature the spermidine. The deficiency of arginine and the decrease in free spermidine prevents rapid re-uptake back into the cytoplasm. The skewed ratio of polyamines cause a deficiency of L-methionine and L-ornithine over time as they are utilized to synthesize the polyamines at much higher rates than normal. Negative feedback, or an enzyme produced by the protozoan, causes a down regulation of the IL2RA gene and limits the number of polyamines/protozoans that are destroyed. Something similar happens to the IL2RA gene from Trypanosoma in African Sleeping Sickness.

There appears to be a blockage near putrescine production as any exercise causes toxic levels of carbon dioxide production and my sweat smells terrible. I feel the Kreb Cycle does not function properly due to low fumarate and it appears I have a CBS enzyme up-regulation. I feel the CBS up-regulation could be just a byproduct of the ornithine cycle blackage.

I have no idea what any of this means, so excuse me for a bit, while I go get a few PhDs. smile

I've been fortunate enough to contact her, Dr Jernigan, and Dr Alan McDonald. All were very gracious but Dr Jernigan didn't have a lot of time to talk to someone like me. He didn't like my opinion on ammonia.
