Has anyone experienced itchy skin with Lyme/Co's? Is this a neurological symptom? Can it be a part of a herx?

One of my worst symptoms is what I call "burning brain." It feels like my scalp/forehead is on fire.

I just had a Bicillin shot two days ago, and today my face is burning and tingling along with my scalp. Both my face and scalp are now itchy and I feel like something is "crawling" on me.

I've been on the Bicillin for over 2 months, I don't have a rash or any bumps, and the itching/crawling is not all over, so I highly doubt this is an allergic reaction. Could this be a herx? A histamine reaction?

I have taken Benadryl, and will up my detoxing. I'm amazed, after a year of treatment, how different symptoms come and go and how each herx can be very different. Thanks for any thoughts.

Yes, I had that before beginning treatment. My forehead and top/front of scalp itched as though I had poison oak. And, as you say, it also felt like something was crawling. It was terrible. As soon as I started Doxycycline it went away, so for me it was not a herx.

Itching is also a lack of detox issue. Try some dry brushing towards your heart in the shower before you turn the water on.

Astro, I have been lax on the detoxing the last 4 days as we've been traveling. So that, coupled with the recent injection/new round of die-off, could be a big part of this. Will up the detox, and do have a dry-brush, but didn't have it with me.

Candida made me itch even more - another detox thing. Hard to get the dead stuff out. Internal detoxing all over eventually comes out of the skin.

I get itchy skin. When it happens it ONLY happens at night. So there's some connection to the night. Now, what is that connection I don't know.

What causes the itching? I've heard several reasons, many of which have been mentioned in this thread.

I stop trying to figure out why mainly because there's so many possible reasons.

I just know for me coconut oil gives me relief.

I've also learned in the two years of lyme that it happens in waves or phases. Meaning I'll go through a month of it happening. Then like 6+ months of it not happening and then one day starting again.

I'm actually in one of those phases where it's happening again. It's been happening for the past few weeks but its getting much better so I can tell the "phase" is ending (thank goodness).

decarte- moving less at night? (circulation/detox)

Or the obvious- something your taking at night?
Had initial lyme symptoms late 80's, then again w/with bullseye early 90's. Ended ABX for Lyme in 2015. Rebuilding / repairing / fine tuning since then; member "10 Percenters Lyme Club". What an adventure this has been. Hashimotos adds to the enjoyment.

Moving less sounds more probably than something I'm taking at night. I don't take anything at night that I don't take during the day.

But yes it's when I lay down. But can circulation really cause on surface skin itching?

dacarte3, do you ever have a "crawling" feeling, too?

mareish, since your crawling/itching went away with Doxy, it would have seemed to be a Lyme symptom. As I'm hitting Lyme hard now with Bicillin, I'm thinking it's stirring up the bugs and bringing this symptom out and/or I'm herxing/need to be detoxing more (or, all of the above).

Since it went away w/ doxy, I believe it is a Lyme & Co. symptom as does the LLMD. Too bad you are still having the itching, etc. Perhaps it is the stirring up and a herx.

Yes I've experienced the crawling feeling before (not currently).

> Spots and areas on the body under skin that suddenly become extremely sensitive to touch.
> Burning pain like sunburn or freshly scraped skin embedded with sand in the digits/ limbs.
> Sudden itchiness of limbs or parts of body.
> Skin flushes
> Nodules under the skin
> All lumps and cysts become very painful during periods of active Lyme and within areas of inflammation. E.g. all endemitriosis cysts, implants, lesions, endometrioma's, endometrial polyps and sebaceous cysts, popliteal baker's cyst, paralabral cysts, ganglion's, lipomas, or any cyst within the body or lumpy masses under the skin or as well as old scars, warts, swollen lymph nodes, calcium deposits, Fibrocystic Breasts, Polycystic kidney cysts...
> Fingernail changes such as vertical ridges, curved under, flat in center
> Scalp rash
> Rashes, eczema

So many of the symptoms overlap...... But lyme and babs both have symptoms of itching skin.
