Has anyone ever used a powder or capsule form of Mepron / Atovaquone?

The liquid has saccharin and xanthan gum, probably derived from corn, which gives me problems- namely depression and rage. I avoid pretty much all food but homemade and feel so much better on a strict corn-free diet. But I have to take a double-dose of Mepron (I really need to stick with it at least 3 weeks) and I’m miserable. My depression coincides with Mepron use, and when I saw the ingredients, it made sense.

Before I call my doctor (who, like most people, never heard of extreme corn sensitivity and thinks I’m weird and probably delusional) I was wondering if such a thing exists and if anyone has tried it. If it is only available from a compounding pharmacy, I need to call my insurance. They don’t cover the compounding fees and I’m afraid of what Mepron will cost out of pocket (the bottle from the pharmacy says $1300)

Babs, I googled and Mepron comes in pill form.

Check out the ingredients and see if there is corn there. I didn't see any, but I don't know all those ingredients.

Thanks. The cellulose and starch could be a problem, but I have a feeling they’d still be in much less concentration than the liquid mepron’s sweetener and xanthan gum.

I made an appt with my LLMD and will ask for an alternative. Just need to keep pushing through the weekend.

I haven't heard of anyone taking the Atovaquone in pill form. Not sure why that is - if it exists.

But, there is Malarone - in tablet form that combines Atovaquone with Progaunil.
