Hi friends!

My question, is if one of you crunches your thyroid cartilage. I notice one side of my cartilage cracking if I press the nut, and if I move my head from one side to another it also clicks ... I'm scared, is it being destroyed? I think I'm the only that have it, and it's because i was thinking into another disease that involves thyroid cartílago like systemic disease, polychondritis etc... ...
I need help you, I'm so desperated sad

You're the first person who has posted about the clicking thyroid cartilage.

When I press the left side of my neck in that area, it clicks but not the right side.

No one has cared except one LLND.

I just pressed it now...(I had forgotten about it) and it's not quite the same...not as crunchy.

I just tried to forget abut it because my thyroid lab tests are good.

mine doesn't do it by moving my head though.

Do you have any pain with it?

Mine doesn't hurt, even when I press on it.

I've self studied thyroid information for years and have never heard of this. I doubt its the gland itself making noise, as its very soft tissue which does not expand or contract like muscle, nor are there any flexible joints in it which a sound could be emitted.

Many (non-ill)people make clicking noises when swallowing, its not thyroid disease related.

In cases of enlarged thyroid (goiter) I have not read about it making any noise either.

Endocrinologists are trained to palpitate the thyroid.

My thyroid is partially destroyed from antibodies as seen on an ultrasound, yet it makes no noise, by itself or when I push on it.

The rest of my body was certainly noisy at one time- ends of tendons clicking at joints, joints cracking and popping ect. Plenty of overlapping muscular tendons in the neck. I can sometimes even crack my sternum-by stretching, as the ribs have a tight connection to it, but it is movable.

Weird. It is important to mention the "thyroid cartilage" is part of the structure encompassing the trachea (which contains the larynx). Its given the name since the thyroid gland is in front of it, but separate.

When my TSH was real low, this area was sore and is was tender to swallow, was not loud at all. I do have a nodule there as well, but its not real big. I did not try to move it around though, just seems like that is a "hands off" area LOL.

Many people are "loud swallowers" though- everyone's met someone like that.

OriolCarol- when was the last time, if ever, that your thyroid lab panel was tested? Are any other joints and tendons in your body making noises?

I was very MS like, so, as I mentioned, my whole body creaked at one time - but not around my thyroid. Must have been lucky.
Had initial lyme symptoms late 80's, then again w/with bullseye early 90's. Ended ABX for Lyme in 2015. Rebuilding / repairing / fine tuning since then; member "10 Percenters Lyme Club". What an adventure this has been. Hashimotos adds to the enjoyment.

Yes, my whole body creaks. Especially my wrists, and ribs, along with the sternum.

My tsh, t3 and t4 are normal. One month ago.

OriolCarol- Well.....there are people who have had these infections their whole life and did not die. And they were infected before the internet became helpful. Before that it was the library or asking Drs who did not have the answer's.

Anyone here is already one step ahead, so congratulate yourself on that. Answers to many questions are a finger tip away.

The mental part of worrying about these infections is obviously part of the battle. There have been many posts here on natural supplements for anxiety and depression. You could goggle those last four words + astroman and see my responses. (in our upper right goggle box.)

Not everyone has overall body tightness, but for those that do this is life changing. Some over come it from treatment, some need that plus manual muscle/tendon work. The later has a lot of good videos on you-tube. I was/am in the later group. I learned a lot of self help muscle treatment from you tube.

If you dont have a foam fitness body roller, I'd suggest getting a firm one. Even the $20 ones at walmart do the job. Dont need a 3 foot , 2 ft long works. Doing this severl times a day helps circulation, which is the key to loosening a rigid body.

Your still young and have plenty of time to get better.

Mine does this. I creak, snap and pop all over! Honestly, with my myriad of other issues, this does not even faze me. Mine even cracks when I swallow. Hopefully this goes away with treatment!

Good to know (I think?) that it's separate from my thyroid - and part of the structure around the trachea.

Something else that's strange around that area - I had rough skin on the front of my neck - and it was darker - like it was tanned.. It's gone now, though - but was there for a couple years.

There's a lotta strange "things" that have happened to my body with Lyme and co's - it's always a relief when these "things" go back to normal.

I'm scared and obsessed with my Adam's apple. I have an asymmetrical side, bigger than the right and my head is playing a hard time, and makes me believe that before I did not have it like that .... Now I touch it 200 times a day, without exaggerating .. .. Every click I hear or feel pain, my mind relates it to loss of cartilage and more deadly diseases such as polychondritis ... Today I have had an mri of neck and ears, I hope everything goes well ... (well, I want to say, without degenerative changes in those cartilages, because the cervical ones I have damaged them) I am losing the papers and I think that I am not going to know how to take this situación alone...

I know you're scared..for me fear is actually a symptom.

Now that I'm feeling better somewhat since treatment - my fear has lessened. i'm not so worried about the crunchy area on the front of my neck anymore.
I believe pre-lyme, I probably had some anomalies but didn't know because I hadn't scanned almost every inch of my body and wasn't poking and prodding everything.

I had some degeneration show up on my cervical and thoracic spine...both my chiro and regular Dr. said it's not unusual for anyone over 35/40 years old to have some. Mine isn't severe...but of course back then (pre lyme diagnosis) I was worried every time I read a report.
Just because you have "x" doesn't mean its' causing your symptom.

My husband was in a bad car accident...and it messed up his back for a few years. MRI showed more than moderate degeneration.. After a year, he still had some pain in a certain area, and the orthopedic surgeon told him it was as good as it would get. In fact, he'd probably have arthritis set in and he'd end up having more pain. (How depressing is that?)

He just said to himself (f--k that) and worked hard on rehabbing his body...along with using DMSO and sure enough he succeeded at becoming pain free. That was 2001 (around there, can't remember exactly) - still no issues today.

His PCP told him that he's seen really good mri's of backs...and people have back pain...and shoddy looking ones..and people have no pain.

I'm rambling...sorry. But, please try not to worry already - don't borrow trouble.
