Just got out of my LLMD appointment and she wants me to stop all antibiotics for 5 weeks since I’ll be traveling out of the country for work and haven’t been feeling well. This worries me becuase I’m in the middle of babesia treatment..

She also wants me to do aDNA Connections PCR test for Lyme, babesia, bartonella and a couple others. It’s pretty expensive but I agreed to do it becuase she thinks it’s pretty accurate..

Has anyone had luck with this test? Is it accurate?

Many forum members have had positives using the DNA Connexions.

Have you had any improvements with your treatment so far?
I'm not sure I'd want to stop...How bad are you feeling?

Good to know! I agree, I don’t think I should stop either but she’s worried that the Zithromax is causing the head pressure. Since I’m traveling for work for the next several weeks she doesn’t think it’s a good idea for me to keep taking the meds. I couldn’t imagine flying to Italy and staying there for two weeks alone with the way I am feeling now. My boss said that if I absolutely can’t go, we can probably work something out.

I guess her whole idea is to take a break, let my immune system do it’s thing and see what comes back on the dna Connections test then hit whatever it is, hard.

I’m honestly feeling pretty bad. My head pressure was so bad today the entire day. I tried pinella and burbur, the. Alka seltzer gold and then Advil and nothing stopped the pressure.

To me, since I’m 2 months into babesia treatment I really hate to just take such a long break, but she kept assuring me that it wouldn’t hurt to do that. She said I could stay on my herbs. I’m not sure what to do..

Did you have head pressure prior to the Mepron?

When I took Mepron, my head pressure really ramped up... in fact it seemed to affect my eyes somewhat. it felt like they were going to pop out of my head....
I had some really bad episodes this past summer when I was on Mepron.

I took it starting in March, 2017 for about 7 or 8 months (I don't have my notes in front of me)

Nic,

After I had a negative result for Lyme with Igenex, I tested with DNA Connexions and was positive for Lyme and Ehrlichia. I have clinical signs and symptoms of bartonella and babesia but did not get a positive result on those.

My understanding is if you get a positive result, it is 100% accurate, but a negative result does not mean you don't have the infection. It only means they did not find bacterial DNA for that infection in your sample.

Why is the doctor wanting you to test when she's already treating you for the infections?

For the record, while some have tested positive for coinfections with DNA Connexions, it is not the preferred lab for testing those. Galaxy Diagnostics is supposed to be the best for bartonella. Did you have the Labcorp tests for any coinfections? Some get positive results with that and don't need to fork out more money for expensive specialty labs.

I did not have head pressure before Mepron. I had headaches but not really the pressure. Brain fog, head pressure and dizzyness all increased a lottt when starting the combo.

She wants to do the tests because she isn't sure I should be taking the mepron since I am not feeling well. She wants to be sure I have babesia before I keep spending money on treatment that I may or may not need. However, she did say that if it did come back negative we still may treat, but we'd clear the stuff that was positive first, then if I still show sx of babesia then we can start that treatment again.

I did not do Labcorp. She said they don't have tests for all the strands of babesia and bartonella like DNA connections has and she said it would probably end up costing me more through them. DNA connections was $500 (not sure if I can post prices) but I feel like it was worth it. Do you think that is too much for it?

Nic,

You might want to do some searching and asking about which lab and test type is the most likely to get you a positive result if you have babesia.

From what I have been seeing, lots of people have been getting positives with DNA Connections. Some people are thinking maybe too many positives. However, my lyme doctor said she had a few patients that she really doubted had lyme or co's and they did come back negative and she said she has had several come back with bart and/or babesia.

I have heard that Galaxy is really expensive..
