Hi everyone,

It's been a while since I've posted on here. I've been feeling much better lately (look back at some of my old posts for a little background) after completing 4-5 months of the Buhner protocol. I took a few weeks off around the holidays, because I figured I had been on it long enough. Just to appease my own anxiety, I decided to do another month and a half on the protocol "just incase."

I started it about a week ago, and have been noticing a shooting, migrating pain all over my body, specifically around my head, neck, shoulders, left arm, and back. After dealing with Lyme symptoms on-and-off for the last 6 or 7 years, I have a pretty high pain tolerance, but this is getting a bit ridiculous.

Has anyone else experienced this type of pain? It's almost like a tickling sensation, but painful, with alternating dull and sharpish pain.

Any insight would be greatly appreciated.

Yup. Super common symptom I think. One of the ones that really stands out as being "Lyme" to me as I haven't heard of it elsewhere. Did you notice it at all when you stopped or only when you restarted? For me this symptom mostly comes out when relapsing but also as a herx sometimes.

I had it.

You quit Buhners, but were you symptom free?

If you were not completely symptom free it is probably a herx. Or, you starting up the herbs again made the spirochetes run for cover because the army of herbs was coming.

I've had sharp electrical like pains in the head. I have other sharp pains in tissue elsewhere. The pains in the head didn't start until I started IHA and sida acuta for bartonella and babesia.

You didn't say which protocol you did. Did you just do the Lyme protocol, or did you do bart and babs, too? What herbs are in your protocol?

If you've been sick 6-7 years, then I don't know if 4-5 months is going to cut it. Buhner has said things giving the impression that 12 months for Lyme is necessary to get all stages of the infection. (I'm probably not wording that exactly right, but bottom line is 12 months to be on the safe side.). I expect to be on the various protocols for 18 months or longer to get all the infections.

Yes. Very common.

For me if it happens anywhere that isn't my head I almost "don't care" and just don't even think about it and move on with life. When it happens in the head region and that upsets me because it's to close to the brain and that scares me.

But then like all shooting, nerve, fibro, lyme pain it eventually goes away.

Just herxing/inflammation.
Lyme (Igenex) - Positive IFA and WB bands 23, 31, 41
Ehrlichia (Igenex)
Mycoplasma (Labcorp) - Score: 595

ABX Treatment: 03/2016-04/2016; 7/2017-9/2017
Buhner Protocol for Lyme and Mycoplasma: May 2016 - Dec. 2016; 8/2017 - Present

Thanks everyone for the responses. I just did the Buhner Protocol for Lyme. I've tested positive for Lyme twice w/ IgeneX, but negative for all co-infections each time I was tested. Over the past 6-7 years, I have been on multiple antibiotic protocols, most recently 3 months of Ceftin at the beginning of 2017 after testing positive for Lyme again with IgeneX. After the three months of Abx, my follow-up IgeneX Lyme test came back negative and my doctor advised that Abx were no longer necessary, and I just needed to let me body take time to heal.

After posting about the Dr's response on this forum, I was advised by many on here that 3 months of Abx was probably not long enough, so I took up the Buhner protocol for Lyme. Now that I think about it, I have probably been on the protocol for closer to 6-7 months, as I started near the beginning of summer 2017.

I have been using:
- Grapefruit Seed Extract
- SkullCap
- Andrographis
- Organic Cordyceps Mushrooms
- Cat's Claw
- Red Sage
- Japanese Knotweed Tincture
- Hydrolyzed Collagen

I also added:
- Organic Liquid Stevia Extract
- Organic Powdered Stevia Extract

It is my understanding that these are all of the herbs / products in the updated protocol that are recommended. I added the Stevia because I can get it at a low-cost (Trader Joe's carries both) and figured it couldn't hurt.

Intuition,

That sounds like a good Lyme protocol. I do think you should consider addressing bartonella and babesia, though. The only coinfection I tested positive for was ehrlichia, even though I've had telltale signs and symptoms of bartonella and babesia since early childhood. In fact, my symptoms seem to point to bartonella as the big one for me. I've seen many comments from others on here stating that some of the well known Lyme docs treat all 3 B's (borrelia, bartonella, babesia) presumptively. I've heard some believe babesia is the one that can hold people back even if they don't have obvious symptoms. It kind of lurks in the background.

I would just hate for you to think you're done only to have coinfections hang on and pull you down later.

Since you're doing Buhner, I'd recommend adding either IHA formula and Sida acuta or CSA formula and houttynia to your protocol for at least a few months. If any new symptoms come out after adding those, let us know and we can help you sort out what coinfections might be showing up. (I'd recommend starting with one tincture for a week or two before adding the next one so you can see the difference between them.)

Thank you WalkingbyFaith!

I went ahead and ordered 2oz of the CSA formula and 2oz of a Houttuynia Cordata Tincture. I will add these to my protocol 2x daily until they run out and see how that goes. Hopefully I will see some improvement.

If anyone else has any more suggestions, they would be greatly appreciated.
