My last nutritional panel showed my Vit D level was low. Not extremely low and not the lowest it's been with lyme but still below the optimal level (though improving).

I was going to buy more Vitamin D3 supps and was wondering the dosage others were taking.

I was/am taking 2000 IU a day. However this seems to be the recommend dose for anyone (meaning not ill/with lyme) over 18.

With a lower than optimal levels and having lyme (which is notorious for lowering Vit D levels), I'm wondering if it should be more than 2000 IU per day.\?

Over time, I've scaled-back on all supplementation, as I'm no longer convinced it's ideal. Of course, each person has to decide what's right for them.

Should you have any interest in considering reasons not to take Vitamin D, I thought I'd include the following resource:

But, perhaps you've already weighed both sides of the debate. If so, then feel free to ignore this post. If not, you can STILL ignore it, if you want! smile I just feel it's important for people to make informed choices.

I had a bad herx type reaction. Some controversy on if it's really low or not. Some say you need to test your 1,25 D level to see what your usable levels are.

I stopped taking even 5k daily and only get 2k from a multi.

I'm seeing my LLMD tomorrow and will ask him.

I take the prescription D2 1.25mg (50,000 units). I was started on this in 2012 when I complained of bone pain and was first tested. Once my levels came up, I was supposed to switch to the OTC kind, but they were derived from lanolin, which I'm allergic to. I talked to the PA and came up with a plan to stay on the Rx and take it every 2 weeks instead of weekly and they monitored my levels. It worked out okay that way.

However, my D levels improved much more effectively when I was drinking Silk almond milk daily. That was the best my levels ever were. I stopped drinking the almond milk in April due to shingles and never got back to drinking it daily again. Just had my levels checked a few weeks ago and they've dropped from what they were.
