Hi all! Does anyone use activated charcoal for detoxing? I am on Levoquin 250 daily but was recently asked to use it 2 days on and 1 day off because the LLMD does not like it when his pts herx too much. If I use this, will it eliminate the antibiotics still in my body fighting the infection on the days off?
Thank you for any info you can give. I just want to make sure I always have some level of antibiotics floating around in there.

I use it.

Just separate it from your abx by a few hours.

So if you take abx at 7:00am - take the charcoal at 9:00 or later

Or if your evening dose of abx is 6:00 pm take the charcoal around 4:00 or after 8:00.

The charcoal will sweep out what’s in your digestive tract only - not what’s in your blood.

Drink lots of water - one glass isn’t enough for me.
I need two or I’m constipated from it

I use it too, almost everyday. I usually take in in the middle of the afternoon and leave a 2 hour window from anything else on either side, but especially after taking it.

Actually, it does affect what's in the blood stream as well as the GI tract:

I also use activated charcoal and like Girlie must take it with lots of water or I deal with constipation, which means even more toxins are being reabsorbed through my intestines.

As both Girlie and Kat said, 2 hours before and after taking the charcoal needs to be clear, as in not taking anything that you wish your body to use - other than water. but even food counts, as those nutrients will bind to the charcoal instead of being absorbed.

Personally, since I get up once every night minimum, I take mine in the wee hours of the morning when I need it. I set it out, along with a big glass of water, and that reminds me in my bleary eyed state at that point.

Oh great!!! This is disconcerting. Traveler - I wonder if the higher amount (6000 mg daily) makes a difference?
I take 1000 mg once or twice daily....

I haven't done any in-depth studying on activated charcoal, so I'm not sure about how the higher doses differ from lower doses in what they bind to.

The two hour window (on either side of ingestion) is supposed to keep this from happening though. My caps are an odd number for mgs - 630 mgs, so with 2 caps, I get 1260 mgs and that's usually the most I take, because of the issues with constipation it creates for me.

Thank you so much everyone this has been most helpful.
So another question if you don't mind. Anyone who has taken Lion's Mane for nerve regeneration? One of my first symptoms was a deep nerve pain in my left buttcheek and left calf. I was treated for Lyme first but this remained as well as internal tremor-like activity. Honestly all my symptoms seems neuro related except for right chest wall pain. As mentioned, I'm only on Levoquin- treating Bart. I see Lion's Mane is an antispirochete and they say to be on immune support when using this because of that. I take D3 3000IUs and Intramax 1oz daily and Milk Thistle as well as Curcumin 3 times per day. Is that immune support or what should I add in case I need it to prevent a Lyme uprising? Any advise?

I'm taking Lion's mane to remyelinate nerves, but I've not seen anything on it to indicate that it's specifically anti-spirochetal, although it does have a positive impact on the immune system, but that's not it's best quality.

I have been using it regularly for the last 9 or so months and have seen improvements in my nerve functions.

Here is one article that I have been able to find to explain the benefits of using Lion's mane: www.greenmedinfo.com/blog/lion-s-mane-mushroom-unparalleled-benefits-your-brain-and-nervous-system

You might consider low B12 and/or low magnesium as related to nerves.

Best of luck!

On the magnesium and B-12 that Cakegirl was mentioning, be sure to do a bit of research and find the type that will help you the most. There are many different types of magnesium and B-12. If you need help finding articles, be sure to ask!
