In the morning, just as I begin the waking process, my arms and legs shake violently for maybe 5 seconds or so. This may happen at other times during the night b4 I wake up 2p ~3:00, but not always. I may shake more subtly when I do my first stretch while still lying in bed. I asked my pcp for a follow-up sleep study as I do have sleep apnea and use a cpap.

Does anyone have any experience this type of convulsion or know what it is?

Its not that big a deal as is, but it's clearly neurological and I worry it may be some harbinger of doom.

BDJ55 - I don't have that happening...but I have/had other issues at night or when I'm waking...

I find it very disconcerting when there are symptoms waking us up in the wee hours of the morning...or coming on when we wake up in the morning.

I sometimes have internal shivering (but not shaking) as I'm waking up in the morning...

I am thinking of redoing the sleep apnea test (monitor) and see if the score is still the same.

Did you have just the obstructive form...or also the Central sleep apnea?

Have you noticed an improvement with the cpap?

Girlie, I have both obstructive and central apneas. If I don't use my cpap, I dream I've died, that I'm not breathing, then I gasp for air and wake up all in a tizzy. It's disturbing. This didn't used to happen before I was first dx'd with sleep apnea. But, before I was dx'd and got the cpap, I was nodding off on the job during the day.

I don't like the cpap but it's a necessary evil. I use ear plugs now And, I put 3 big towels over the machine to deaden the noise.

This shaking seems like it is a seizure of some sort.

What does your Lyme Doc say about your sleep apnea?

How were you prior to lyme?

Mine came on several months after lyme symptoms started.

I would wake every few hours in the night - in a panic, gasping for air, and sweating.
My husband had to wear earplugs because I was very noisy...he said it sounded like a horror movie...the sounds I was making.
Never had that prior to lyme.

It would be interesting to see if my scores are the same now...I'm not waking up like that anymore.

Girlie, I was dx'd with sleep apnea in 2013.

I'm really not sure when I got Lyme as I never saw a tick bite. I melted down in summer 2016 so probably got lyme then. Or I got old and stressed and the " pot boiled over" from an old infection I wasn't aware of. No way to know.

The issues I had prior to summer 2016 were joint pains, occasional back spasms once every 2-10 years, and fall/winter depression which over the years started to include seasonal insomnia. I was otherwise happy, energetic, healthy, and slept well for 9 months out of the year.

I'm now investigating the possibility that the seasonal depression may be mold related. I'm waiting for the results of an environmental relative mold index test. We have a dirt crawlspace under the house which may have some seasonal mold bloom. I notice a musty smell to the house when we've been away on vacation.

I'm between llmd's right now. My last 2 Lyme docs were good listeners but never said much except "here take this". I'm self treating with herbs now.

But, I think my sleep apnea has worsened some since I got Lyme sick.
