A few days ago I was feeling "off" - thought I was dehydrated...and after drinking a full glass of water...no change.

My husband had purchased some cans of coke for the Xmas holidays - which neither of us drank. (Not sure why he bought them)

After I drank the full glass of water - I had this craving for a coke. So, I drank a glass...and I felt good after it.

This morning when I got up...I saw the glucose monitor was out (hubby must have tested before work)
so I thought I'd test...and my sugars were 3.8.
That's quite low.

Now I'm wondering if I may be borderline Hypoglycemic?

After having my oats for breakfast - my sugars went up to 6.0...which is good.

I know I shouldn't be drinking coke...
My husband is 'borderline' diabetic...not medicating...just using diet/exercise to keep his sugars in check.
The thought never crossed my mind that I'd have low blood sugar.

Anyone have low blood sugar with Lyme?

Yes, this is something that I've recently been struggling with too. I believe it's connected to my cortisol levels/adrenal issues. I've had steroids, ashwagandha, holy basil and alpha lipoic acid effect my blood sugar. I try to eat something every few hours. I haven't figured this one out yet! Have you changed anything in your regimen?

Maybe one of your meds? I’m not sure if you’re on bactrim but I believe it can cause low blood sugar.

I have type 2 diabetes, using no meds, just diet and exercise, and also have problems with low blood sugar.

Long ago, for each meal and snack, I figured out what to eat to keep my glucose at optimal levels. Have been doing that for years with good results.

After my ruptured appendix followed up with c-diff, my health has gone down the drain. Along with all the lyme problems, my glucose levels are lower than they were and it's hard to keep them up.

I have no clue why it's lower now, there are so many other health problems right now, I just deal with it.

Talked to my LLMD about the low glucose problem and he suggested MTC Oil. I take one tablespoon a day and my glucose is steadier. Wish I could take more but my gut goes into overdrive if I have more.
Got bit by a tick, bullseye rash in early '60s
'03 - Type 2 Diabetes, low carb diet, Hashimoto's, Secondary Addison's

Turns out my DO is also a LLMD.
Working on healing my gut and killing EBV.

Never give up, never give in!

Thanks Yazz. Thing is I don't have Type 2 diabetes. I have never had a high blood sugar test. They've always been good...until this test yesterday.

Insulin resistance is what we get - we are not usually "true" diabetics with low blood sugar. At least not in the 'traditional' sense.

This is usually seen with Lyme or Bartonella from what I've read - although we know that patient experience can certainly differ from scientific data that is released!!! But, I have had insulin resistance and have had to argue with several doctors that wanted me to start addressing diabetes - even though I didn't have it, my numbers were just off. This is due to the pancreas not working as it should.

Here are a couple of articles that may be helpful:
(Near the bottom of the page here): /www.drtaniadempsey.com/single-post/Why-Bartonella-is-the-New-Lyme-Disease

"Q: What is the relationship between Bartonella and Diabetes?

Dr. Dempsey: Bartonella basically takes the endocrine system hostage. The metabolism changes and it also changes how the body processes the food we eat. What we see with Bartonella is that people develop insulin resistance. Their pancreas often does not work properly releasing too much or too little insulin, which over time can deplete insulin stores or make the insulin less effective. This can lead to diabetes. In addition, since Bartonella has been linked to autoimmunity, type 1 diabetes, which is autoimmune, is a possible side effect.

Another major symptom is weight gain. Eating more and working out isn’t going to help. You have to watch carbs and eat healthy, but that alone isn’t going to help. If someone has an infection underneath all of this, they won’t lose weight at all."

This article is in support of it being caused by Lyme: www.prohealth.com/lyme/library/showarticle.cfm?libid=30799
The whole article is about insulin resistance, so no short paragraph to just copy and paste - but lots of good information!

Not to scare you, but uncontrolled, it can move into diabetes. So, the goal is to address it now, before it gets to that stage.

I hope you find some very helpful information in those articles!!
