Hi.

I started the buhner protocol at the very beginning of November. Over the holidays I was extremely stressed. More then ever. I work for a home heating oil company and because of the extreme cold weather we had I was busier then ever and working almost double of my usual hours plus holiday shopping, entertaining, events etc. right after New Years I started to feel worse then ever. I think its a combination of my Lyme symptoms and candida from all the stress.

I stopped taking the core protocol thinking at first that maybe the herbs was the cause. But it was probably the extreme stress that jusy totally put me over the edge. I feel like I am at deaths door.

I was thinking maybe to start up the protocol again but because I suspect that candida kicked in as well and the tinctures have some alcohol in them is it not a good idea? I was never overly sensitive to alcohol before but I also felt that my candida issue was not that bad. Probably always slightly there though.

Any opinions on starting up the protocol again?

Also I was thinking to go to the Dr j clinic in D.C. But am afraid because their treatment is all abx. If I have a candida issue as well as Lyme I can't see how abx is the right plan of action.

One thing I can tell you about lyme and healing is that it isn't like most other illnesses. Anyway for me it wasn't. I did not feel, "oh, I'm getting better day by day." That was not the case for me at all.

I would lose a symptom and another would appear somewhere else. It was constantly roving in me. I believe it was looking for places to hid from the herbs.

I can't tell you what to do, you aren't my kid...... You will have to do a pro and con list to see what is best for you. It is easy to tell someone what to do, but I hate the responsibility that comes along with that.

Now about stress. I do know that one very well. My husband can just barely raise his voice and I will get diarrhea.

I can make a situation stressful in my own mind and have physical results from it. It can be anything from a stiff neck, diarrhea again, headache, pimples, etc.

Stress was a huge problem for me and I still have to protect myself from it. I am a praying person, and that helps a lot. I also love my quiet places where I can let things go.

I still get stress, but now it is usually because I see a grandchild of mine in the process or on the journey of doing something stupid. I can't stop them and that stresses me. I just put that in the elevator and send it to the basement to be burned in the furnace.

I am wondering how well you ate with all your stress and the holidays. Like you said, it is probably not one thing, but the combination of everything.

Take a deep breath and just get on that treatment wagon again, whichever you choose.

Nix the sugar for 3 months. I know you will feel better with just this one thing.

Hugs of comfort...... I know this anxiety so well and I hate seeing others with it.

Thanks PeteZa.
I have not been very strict on the sugar free diet in years but have been holding at bay with the candida but I think it just went over the edge. My question is should I start up buhner again? Or can that protocol do more harm?
I do know I have to stop the sugar. It's extremely difficult to do and depresses me because I am a bit of a foodie and I have a social life that is always about what restaurant we are going to.
I am going to make an effort though.
But besides candida symptoms I also have a big flare with the Lyme symptoms. Head pressure, head tingling off balance feeling , neck pain, fatigue etc.
The thing is that I have a supply still of the core protocol

I am VERY biased because I healed from Buhner's core protocol, along with Beyond Balance. I do not believe that those tinctures can cause candida. The amount of alcohol is minimal. However, there are tinctures without any alcohol. Check out Hawaii Pharm. They make a lot without alcohol. I have even gotten them on Amazon.

I think if you ask 10 people what to do, you will get 10 different answers.

Being a foodie myself, I totally understand your dilemma. At first I was so sick I could not go out. When I finally could, it was embarrassing to take my "cocktail" of herbs. If I did not take my herbs at meal time, I would completely forget.

You are probably having a flare because you are not treating. The lyme bugs are having a party because there is nothing chasing them.

If you do start the herbs, you have to start low and up them slowly again. You will probably get to move up faster, but be careful. You don't want a herx on top of a flare.

I don't know if I have candida or not. I probably do as most seem to. I had an antibody test and it was negative, but I know that doesn't mean I can't have a problem with it.

Personally, I wouldn't worry about the alcohol in the tinctures unless you find you have some kind of reaction to it.

Again... thanks peteza for your kind sympathy it's so sweet!!

Walkingbyfaith. Thanks for your input.

I just feel so ill that I think I am afraid to take anything. Like I said earlier.. I was managing before the holidays. Not good, but I was able to function. I am now dysfunctional. I can barely stand up today. I have been lying down all day. I was very weepy because of how i feel and I don't see a light at the end of the tunnel. I have to go to work tomorrow and I am not sure how I am going to accomplish that. I am hoping to wake up tomorrow with more energy!! 🙏🙏

Peteza your response is great, do you have any specific prayers for Lyme?

Lymesick I don't think they like us to get religious on this forum.

You are more than welcome to email me.

Aphysicalwreck, worrying about going to work the next day is anxiety and stressful.

Remember that lyme comes and goes. Horrible and not so horrible is how I describe it.

I hope you feel better tomorrow.

I took many a day off to just sleep and lay around. That was all I could do frankly.

Peteza

I have a feeling the reason for the sudden change in the way I feel is besides the Lyme I think Candida suddenly came back. My stomach is gurgling and very tight and uncomfortable in the very upper stomach right below the ribs and there is no quick fix with either one!!

Also the problem is that I run an office by myself on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday and another women runs it on Thursday, Friday and Saturday. I don't like asking her to fill in for me because she always fills in for me when I take vacations. Also I have a lot of work to do that she does not do. I really need to go in. Also I don't get paid if I don't work.

Hopefully I can get through the day!!

Do you like garlic? How about bone broth?

How about some roasted garlic in the bone broth????

Bone broth heated and drank like tea always soothes my tummy.

I get Pacific brand, organic turkey bone broth. I think the least expensive is Walmart, Vitacost has it and so does Amazon. The turkey flavor is the least yuckie in my opinion.

Garlic. I have times when I have to be with people and can't just chomp away on a piece of garlic. I have found that you get a clove of garlic. Cut it into swallowable pieces. Let it set for about 3 minutes for the good parts of it to happen and then just swallow the little pieces with whatever you are eating.

I suggest doing this and only doing 1 clove to begin. It will clear out your gut of all kinds of bad yuckies.

When I first began cooking at the age of 17, I would start to get a cold and always make spaghetti. Home made spaghetti sauce that simmered for hours (taught by a real Italian Momma). Now I realize that it was the garlic in that sauce that was curing my almost cold.

I bet you get to work and you get busy and you don't feel as awful.

For some reason concentrating on my job, I had less symptoms. I guess I was distracted.

I hope this is the case for you. Try your best to be positive.

Hard when we feel like poo-poo, I know.

I actually bought an organic chicken yesterday and made my own. I have been sipping on it today. I also cut a few cloves of garlic but didn't do anything with it yet. I will take it down with some broth.

Thanks again peteza for your support.

You won't be the first patient to go to Dr. J's clinic with Candida issues with lyme.
He does have his patients on Diflucan intermittently.

(just an fyi - if you do decide to go there - Candida isn't anything new to Dr. J and his staff)

It have a systemic yeast infection (not a candida strain). So, I have no desire to go the abx route (for that and other reasons).

The yeast problem is a major pain, honestly. But I was successful in knocking it back though.

I did not notice any issues taking herbals (with alcohol) when I took them. In fact, some of the herbals I took for yeast issues probably had some alcohol in them at some point (I rotated through different treatments).

Wishing you the very best!
Kid#1: Extremely sick for several years, very difficult to treat, but doing great now!
Kid#2: Still sick now despite being treated for years but doing better (not well yet).
Kid#3: Generally good but relapsing off/on.
Me: Adv Labs positive 2016 (suspected I passed to my kids)-not as sick as others, mostly battling fatigue and yeast issues (heart/kidney issues resolved)
Treating with herbals now.

So can you use herbs instead of abx? I thought it was to supplement them?
Can you start off with herbs, or are abx needed...l am getting to the root of autoimmunity investigation so could start abx once they've tracked this down and diagnosed.
I'm also using diet, the aip.
I like to come across healing stories.
Am grateful so many positive ,so much advice,as someone new to this it is hugely helpful

Yes you can do herbs all alone for lyme treatment.

It's in a couple of weeks.

Flights/hotel booked...just hoping it won't be freezing temperatures and snow.

Friends/family are asking why I don't wait until mid March/April when the weather's better - to go...but I am already wishing I was there yesterday!!
