I went through 3 years treatment, IV abs +...., been feeling good for the last 2.5 years back to work and functioning quite well. Over the last month symptoms have been coming back quickly. I want to know if any of you have gone through this and what you've done. Do I go back on abx, try herbs, or wait it out? I know you can't give advice but just need ideas of what you would or have tried. Thanks all! Wish I could say glad to be back but...

First of all, I'm so very sorry, PoH!

I've been in this position, although I still firmly believe it was a reinfection, not a relapse for me, as I found a tick attached just days before symptoms returned.

I would not wait around before doing whatever you chose to do. We know that the body doesn't do well to fight it off on it's own once we have had it and had symptoms.

Personally, knowing what I now know, I chose to not go directly after the infections after failing to make progress with Buhner's. I am mainly supporting and slowly/carefully raising my immune function to deal with it, although I am taking low dose antibacterial/antiviral/antifungal herbs as well to help control my symptoms - and of course, symptom relief.

I've been doing this for the last 6 months (I think? LOL), and I do feel more stable than I did previously.

I have had a couple of scares that lyme was coming back and so has hubby. He actually relapsed, but I think it was because he quit buhner's protocol way too soon.

I his case, he just went back to the buhner's protocol and started low and slow moved up the doses. It only took him a couple of months and he leveled out again.

The majority of Buhner's herbs are for immune health and that is what hubby took. He did not do Andrographis the second time.

Me, when I had my scare, I just went to Japanese Knotweed and in 2 days - nothing. It made me question if I had imagined the symptoms. I was in a very stressful time, so maybe it was just stress???

Pictureofhealth, I am so very sorry you have relapsed. It still is a huge fear of mine and now hubby also.

Whatever you choose to do, I wish you all the best.

Thanks Traveler and PeteZa,
I think I have some Japanese Knotweed around and will try. Traveler may I ask what low does herbs you are taking? You can PM me if you want.

Yes stress could be playing a part. We almost lost hubby last month when bronchitis caused kidney failure and heart attack.

One other thing I've been eating anything I want for the last 2 years and felt good other than 10 pound weight gain. I started a diet the ER Dr told my husband to go on (Always Hungry by David LudwigMD). It seems similar to lyme diet no sugar, wheat but you can have dairy. I'm wondering if this could be playing a part. I've been doing dairy for 2 years though. Aww the mystery continues...

The low dose herbs I'm using are cistus incanus and a 4 thieves tincture I make (Lavender, Rosemary, Sage, Thyme, Peppermint, Garlic, Black Pepper).

I've managed to make it to two cups a day of cistus incanus, but ended up herxing too much after about 3 weeks on it, so I backed down to 1 cup and have worked my way back up to 1 & 1/2 cup so far, but taking it slow. My intestines really have a love/hate relationship with this herb! LOL!

On the 4 thieves tincture, I had such good results using a 4 thieves essential oil, that when I saw this recipe in one of my school lessons, I just had to make it and try it -BOY oh boy!! It works really well for me! LOL! I've only managed to get to a whopping 5 drops am and 5 drops pm - and it doesn't look like I'll be upping that dose for a while! The combination of those herbs are hitting things pretty good for me on higher doses, and herxing just isn't for me any more. LOL.

And, as I said, I do a ton of support herbs, detoxing and all of that as well. I do feel much more stable on this than I have in a couple of years, although I know my adrenals and thyroid healing more have helped that as well.

If I can be of any help, or just a sounding board, do be sure to let me know! I wish you the very best in finding your way through this.
