Does anyone else here have GERD?

I've never been to a doctor about this specifically. Probably because there are so many symptoms to address, this always kind of took a side line. But lately it has progressed to center stage. It became so bad that I couldn't sleep last night. I took some lemon pills to try to calm it down, and eventually I was able to get to sleep, after stacking pillows up to the point where I was almost sleeping upright. I have also put blocks under my bed to raise up my head.

I watched a good youtube video about GERD. He said to eat a low carb diet. Today my esophagus is so irritated, I'm just going to fast.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=McXhHJ0rQug

I've heard that lyme causes GERD. I never understood why/how. Are spirochetes attacking the esophagus or the sphincter muscle?

Is there a way to tell when this has become cancerous? I read that the cancer is really bad, and spreads quickly.

I guess I should probably go see my PCP and try to get an appointment with a gastroenterologist. I just hate seeing my doctor. He's a lyme denier. He's so annoying. Oh well.

I too have been suffering with digestive issues for years. As many years as I have had Lyme disease. I have a hiatal hernia which causes acid reflux. From what I have read over the years it is a common symptom of Lyme as well. What isn't a symptom of Lyme? Lol. I am suffering with nausea lately. It's making me feel even more ill.

If I were you I would definitely go to a gastroenterologist. I dont think you have to worry about cancer at this point. After years of not treating gerd it could lead to more serious problems. In the meantime you can try taking some apple cider vinegar in some water before you eat. Also you can try an over the counter medication like Pepsid. That can help too.

Good luck. I know how horrible it is. It never ends!!!

I had gerd and used baking soda.

Before my shower and bed, I put baking soda (a teaspoon) in 1 cup of water and chug it down. It is gross tasting, but I don't let it sit in my mouth. I chug.

It makes me burp like a man, but I then can sleep like a baby. Hubby uses this too.

I never heard of plain "lemon pills".

D-Limonene gel tabs (1000mg at night) will almost certainly cure all GERD. It coats the whole gut and makes the LES valve heal.

The only thing beneficial a gastro Dr can do is test for hatial hernia or H. Pylori. - in these two D-Limonene cant help.

They said I needed the LES helper rubber band surgery, as 10 of their drugs made my GERD worse.

D-Limonone fixed it. I avoided surgery. So much for conventional medicine LOL

So far my body still has 100% OEM equipment intact. OEM is best : )

I would also try the D-limonene.

I have used it a few times....and it definitely helped.

My throat issues are from the infections.

It's likely caused by the CNS involvement - the cranial nerve (the 9th?) that affects the throat.

I had horrible GERD and it came on right when I became very ill with all my Lyme symptoms. I have never tested positive for Lyme though my LLMD thinks I likely have it. I definitely have Bartonella per PCR testing though and it can cause gastritis, which can then cause GERD.

I did read that Lyme can cause GERD by causing peristalsis dysfunction. It has to do with CNS involvement.

I’ve been treating with herbs since July and am glad to report that my horrible gut issues have been fading away. I can now eat many things that would have really bothered me before. I no longer have GERD at all. I just get mild gastritis occasionally.

I hope you find some answers and relief. GERD is such an uncomfortable thing to deal with.

Thanks for all your replies and info!!

I have been taking d-limonene and it does seem to help quite a bit. That's what I meant by "lemon pills". smile

I think I will go to a gastrelogist and see what's going on. I was hoping they could put a camera down and see if there's any sign of cancer. If not, I can deal with the irritation I suppose.

I have really bad neurolyme, so I wonder if that's the cause. Maybe the spirochetes are attacking the nerve that controls the stomach sphincter muscle and making it not work properly. Man! Lyme disease is such a horrible disease. Every month it's something new. What a mess.

I do think it migrates around. It seems to attack something for a month, and then it moves on to something else to attack. I guess it doesn't want to "bite the hand that feeds it". It just wants to nibble, and then try out something else.

I think in 6 months I'm going to need to quit my job and treat this disease daily, every day, for 2 years straight. Hopefully I can eradicate it. I hope my doc will prescribe dapsone. Hopefully that will eradicate it. I'd really like to become a healthy human being again. I guess we all would!! smile

Candida makes gerd also.

2nd best thing for gerd; Manuka Honey, $20 a medium tub/jar.
Had initial lyme symptoms late 80's, then again but also with bullseye early 90's. Ended ABX for Lyme in 2015. Rebuilding / repairing / fine tuning since then; member "10 Percenters Lyme Club". What an adventure this has been. Hashimotos adds to the enjoyment.

I don't doubt that Dapsone is effective in combination with Doxy and Rifamin due to what Horowitz has said, however, I don't think he stresses enough how dangerous Dapsone is.

Dapsone can and usually does cause anemia so iron levels need to be closely watched while taking this. My LLMD didn't tell me that she wouldn't prescribe it, but she warned me about the side effects. It was enough to scare me out of taking it for now.

If you DO decide to take dapsone please report back and let us know how you did on it and if it worked for you. Don't leave us in the dark ;)

Lyme and Bartonella both will attack/irritate the vagus nerve, which controls much of this.

If left untreated, it can progress to Barrett's Esophagus, which can lead on to cancer. But, it's fairly treatable for most.
Herb only treatment for Lyme & Bart ended 12/11 - no active symptoms for 2 yrs -Herb only treatment for Babesia ended 12/12

hiatal hernia is a physical abnormality of the upper gut wall muscle(s). Hatial hernias dont happen in a short time frame, its muscle failure from injury, malfunctioning nerves or a born with deformity.

D-limonene coats and sooths allowing healing of irritated tissues /inflamation of cell walls ect..

G- the best thing to do is go on an ellimination diet, take leaky gut protocal suppliments with d-limonene, jack up head of bed 4-6" with wood blocks. A kinked neck from pillow stacking is not advised for night gerd. Eat simple and clean as possible- no milk, glutan, sugar for a month.

Any opinions on brands of d-limonene. I know jarrow was mentioned. I called around at a few of my stores that I buy supplements at and they didn't have jarrow brand.

Are all brands created equal?

Are all brands created equal? (D-limonene)

I reserached a few years ago and there were only four brands to choose from.

- Jarrow is the best quality for the $.

60count / 1000mg for $10 at vita cost and a few other places.

Enzamatic Therapy is 5 gels for $25 (LOL rip -off of the century).

The other two were "off" brands I never heard of. One did come in a lower 250Mg gel tab (not enough).

Other alternatives would be pectin powder, similar but slightly different.

I know how that is. I'm not the most patient person.

I order almost everything. It is over an hour to the nearest Walmart for me and it requires driving in city traffic - *ICK*
