Anyone know how frequently and how much at one time is safe to take? Bottle just says 2 drops or more a day. Doesn't say what the upper limit was. 4 drops 2x a day yesterday was producing some encouraging signs, but feels like I need more. Just don't want to hurt myself. I'm new to taking EO. Never honestly looked into it much but my wife wanted it for her bronchitis and that new Zhang study got me curios to experiment

there are so may supplements that i have taken. I finally found a place to buy oil of oregano in canada about a year ago. I bought 1 small bottle and then went to buy more only to find out that they had stopped stocking it. Now i am looking for it again. I had been taking 4 drops per day and I do not know if it was doing anything or not for me since i do take lots of supplements. Sorry i cannot answer more. This stuff is really hard to find here. xfmlg

I’ve been taking the same brand of oregano oil( p73) which is already diluted with olive oil. I’ve been taking it for years. Let me just be clear that anything I say here relates only to this specific prediluted oil!

I began with small amounts, but now I take 1/2 to a full dropper 2x a day . If I’m fighting a toothache I may take more. I usually just put it under my tongue (or on my teeth if needed).

I’ve tried putting it in water & also adding it to an EO antibiotic combination that I put in gel caps. I prefer taking it directly in the mouth. The gel caps were harder on my stomach, but that’s probably because they contained other oils as well. When taken orally this oregano oil dosent bother my stomach at all.

I started with 1 drop & in the beginning that seemed really strong at first. Now I’ve gotten used to it.

I do think I herxed from it, but as I didn’t know I had Lyme or what herxing was , I can’t swear it. I just know I felt absolutely awful all the time when I started taking it ( that’s why I started taking it) and I continued to feel awful for quite a long time.

So I would suggest sticking with current dose for a little while & increasing slowly, depending on your reactions & how your body likes it. If you’re able to tolerate more that’s fine! Just go slowly, because like anything else, the die off can creep up on you !

All that said, the guy who owns North American herb & spice ( forget his name at the moment- brain fog) has an article online claiming that he used very high doses of his oregano oil very frequently to get rid of his Lyme disease. Seriously mega doses ! I think he caught it fairly quickly though, and of course he’s got unlimited access to his own products. I considered following his dosing schedule & realized that I couldn’t afford it !

Anyway, it’s worth reading about his experience, if you haven’t already. If nothing else, it should reassure you about the safety of higher doses.

Thanks so much for your response Casa. That's kind of what I was afraid of. Wish there was more data on human use so I didn't just have to keep taking arbitrarily larger doses and hoping for something. I was really optimistic for this one but it seems like a lot of the herbs being studied might require such megadoses as to be unfeasible or the time being.

I think you’re right if that’s the only thing you’re taking. But I do believe it’s helpful in lesser doses especially as part of a full protocol.

Even my llmd says that she thinks I’d be much worse off if I hadn’t been taking it for all these years.

She wants me to keep taking it, and I think she said 6 drops 3x a day. I think she just made that up though, and as I already take more than that I just do my own thing.

yeah i think that is the only way to do it, really high doses. I have never heard of mild, small doses of O of O doing much of anything for any lyme patient.

I'm taking 15 drops right now and not noticing anything. Should it be higher than that? I wish people would discuss their doses more. I just don't want to screw myself up

My oregano oil only says "70 percent carvatrol" on it. On the bottle, it says the maximum dose is four drops. I could only tolerate about 5 drops at once. It works great for colds and stuff, but I don't know how much of an effect it has on Lyme. I took some for a while. It helped for a while, but then it stopped helping.

I don't think really high doses of anything will help, if a low dose doesn't have any effect at all.

Not sure what you mean by this. My remaining symptoms are neuro so whatever I'm taking is going to have to reach significant concentrations in my nervous system which really requires the upper end of the dose range.
