Hi guys

I just arrived from the emergency room ...

I was at home having dinner quietly, when suddenly I noticed a very strange pressure on my face, with burning in the nose and blocked ears ... if I had to describe the sensation, I would say that it is the closest thing to a wave of blood going up the neck to the head .... I went to the hospital and I have not solved anything ...

Has this happened to someone?

i've not had the pressure on the face before. My pressure is inside my head behind my eyes.

Has it subsided , OriolCarol?

I have had waves of intense heat/flush like blood going through chest ,neck face. I have experienced blocked ears. The pressure I had was usually on sides and top of head.

Im sorry your having these frightening symptoms and mine did go away after many months of treatment.

Its good to get checked out to rule anything else out but these infections do cause horrible symptoms that mimic do many other things one of them being strokes.

Take care and I hope you get some relief soon from these symptoms, Jo

Sounds terrible.
I always suggest seeing a biological dds. Often head-face issues are cause by dental.
A cheaper way is to get a thermogrophy of head-face. Areas of infection show as hot.
This type of scan is cheap, painless and uses zero radiation

I've experienced pressure while sitting, but nothing quite as intense as you are describing.

My MRI shows signs of intracranial hypertension. I also have a very loud hum (tinnitus) that comes from my brain and pressure in head with vision changes upon bending over. CCSVI can also be an issue with some and can cause blockage in veins leading to brain. An ultrasound of the veins in the neck can show blockage or narrowing. Even Dr. J recognized that this can be an issue with lyme disease.

These may be things you want to explore.

k07 - or anyone who knows.

to check for intracranial hypertension - does a 'regular' mri of the brain show it?

or....is there a particular one? (i.e. - dye enhanced...or?)

I had a regular one without contrast. Also, I believe an eye doc can check for dilation of optic nerve which can also indicate intracranial hypertension. Do you have eye issues (blurry, floaters, etc)? It also says you can get neck/shoulder/back pain due to pressure.

I think next step is then spinal tap to confirm high pressure.

Okay - I’ve had two brain mri’s BUT if they weren’t looking for ICH would they see it? Would it “jump out” at them ?

I’ve had an eye doc look at my optic nerve - for swelling - I told her about Lyme and she also had me do a visual fields test.

I don’t have blurry vision or floaters but I do feel some pressure behind the eyes which worsened on Mepron and for awhile I may have had a bit of blurred vision. (For a few weeks only)

They may have listed it in the findings. My one in 2015 (with contrast) said “incidental note is made of a thinned pituitary. In the right clinical setting is comminly observed in pseudotumor cerebri (or intracranial hypertension). My mri in Dec (no contrast) said the same thing but had the addition of noting mildly dilated optic nerve and the low cerebrel tonsils.

My mri with contrast was particularly for the pituitary gland...and it showed the pituitary stalk was 'deviated to the left with unknown significance'.

I think someone here (forum member) mentioned the intracranial hypertension after I posted about the stalk.

hmmm...

My second mri showed tonsils not descending more than 3 mm.
(no contrast) which for the 'regular' docs means no Chiari. But, there is also Chiari 0 - meaning no descending, but still could be crowding and redirecting the CSF. A Neurologist specializing in chiari would order a CINE mri (I think that's what it's called) to show how the CSF is moving...is it blocked at all...etc.

Hopefully Dr. J. will take a look at these concerns when I'm there. Or - after I'm gone...as I'm actually seeing a PA or NP. (hoping to have 10 minutes with him at the end of my appt).

Also wanted to mention - even IF, it is ICH - something is causing it, right?

...and I was totally fine until April, 2013. Not likely it is a Chiari...which I would have had symptoms of prior to this time in my life.

Sorry, OriolCarol - for the hijack!
I hope you are feeling better now.

I may have had symptoms earlier - lost peripheral vision once at age 13, pulsatile tinnitus in 20’s, lose vision on roller coasters.

Chiari, IIH and even CCSVI seem a bit similar.

I sent mri results to dr h and they got back with me yesterday saying to see neuro and that this isn’t typically seen with lyme.

CCSVI has me wondering too. The left side of my neck has been bad...maybe the nerve issues are because of lack of blood flow....

K07 - have you found a lyme literate neuro? (Sorry, if you mentioned...and I may have forgot)
That would be your best option, right?

I am going to ask local doc when I go in few weeks. Dr H office recommended a neuro in NY but is too costly to travel there.

Good news for you that Dr J recognizes ccsvi caused by lyme. I’ll be anxious to hear how appt goes.

I too have head pressure but also severe tingling off and on throughout the day. I just had an MRI done and the report showed that I have vasospastic phenomena. Basically I broke it down to vascular spasms of the blood vessels in the brain from an unknown cause. That's my own assessment. I am going to the neurologist tomorrow for a follow up so I will know for sure what this is all about.

I would think it's from Lyme disease but the neurologist is not lyme literate so we'll see.

“Vascular spasms” - so does that equate to lack of blood flow?

http://www.tiofsw.com/thermal-imaging/thermography-gallery/

I don't know this group but if you scroll down you will see some good thermal images of the head. This is cheap-no radiation and might just let you know what the problem is. I just did one back home for 75 bucks and it did point out one or two problems.

There are many thermogrophy places in US-mostly focus on breast cancer-just ask them to aim higher. Cat scans are expensive and lots of radiation and mri are expensive-thermal may actually be better

I was looking into thermography as an alternative to mamogram. Full body is not much more expensive than one area.

I have also, k07.

I asked my regular Dr. if she thought they were a good idea...as I am overdue for a mammogram...and really don't like to subject the 'girls' to that. I also asked her if an mri of the breast coupled with a thermogram would be as good.
I'd be willing to pay for the mri - if it's just once every couple years.

I'd have to travel about 3 1/2 hours for the thermography...but I'd be willing.

I know how you feel - I worry a lot too with the darn disease...not knowing if something is from something else..and it's not all Lyme..but I keep reminding myself that I was healthy...no issues until lyme.

For the price I don't understand the debate on thermography.

When I do it again i'll do the full body but for those with odd head symptoms you may start with the head. cheap-easy-qucik-seems like a good thing to get done

It was much cheaper in my previous state. $500 for full body here, but I think I can use flexible spending. I will probably do it this year since I’m supposed to have mamogram. Thanks for reminder on this magoo!

While it a good alt for mammogram I think for people with lyme they will get more benefit by doing a thermography of dental- sinus-ears. Any head issue
