So I was taking 400 mg of doxycycline a day with pulsed Zithromax, and after 2 weeks of initiation, I started having abdominal burning around my belly button. I continued to take doxy despite the pain and ended up with diarrhea, which was watery and of green color, that remained such for 3 days, and on the 4th day I got a mild fever. Several days after the diarrhea and fever stopped, i went and got tested for C diff and the test came back negative.

The burning pain around my belly button went away as i discontinued taking any abx, along with the fever.
I waited for 10 days before starting doxy again. I started doxy yesterday, along with food, and i still got a little abdominal burning, although the dose was only 200 mg this time.

I don't know why this happens, as now i am taking 14 billions of probiotics a day, when i took less before, and still i get intestinal pain. The probiotics contain somewhere from 2-3 billions of lactobacillus acidophilus LA3, 2 billions of bifidobacterium animalis ssp. lactis BLC1 and 5-10 billions of bacillus coagulans BC513 depending on how much capsules i take a day, usually 3 capsules a day.

The local infectious disease doctor sent me for C Diff, which came back negative and sent me to take a stool analysis, which searches for Salmonella, Shigella etc. However, on wikipedia doxycycline is listed as a treatment for those intestinal bacterias. Could this then be because of candida or yeast overgrowth? I am frustrated to say the least, i don't want to spend anymore money on tests and spend less on treatment for lyme, but i seem to not be able to continue further if i don't stop the intestinal burning.

My treatment involves tindamax, doxycycline and zithromax, but no yeast medication whatsoever. I was fine with this, but looks like either my LLMD forgot about it or thought it wasn't a big issue. But now i have to travel and see him again, if i intent to take fluconazole, as it along with zithromax extends QT intervals and mixing these 2 might be fatal.

I really want someone to give me a right direction where i should be heading. If C diff is negative, and doxy kills other intestinal bacterias such as salmonella, then why do i have abdominal burning?

It could just be that the doxy is one of the antibiotics that is hard on the stomach.

Are you sandwiching it with food...ie eating half of your meal...take the doxy....finish the meal?

and you're not taking the 400 mg at once, right?

200 mg twice?

Girlie, it is not stomach pain. It is intestinal pain, stomach pain doesn't result in diarrhea and fever. More so, anta-acids don't help, at least not when it got really bad.

I take 200 mg twice a day, but after 10 days of resting, I started only 200 mg a day and it was enough to feel mild burning in my abdomen (took it with a lot of food and probiotics an hour prior). Also, when I defecate, my anus hurts a little, probably from the hard constipated stool(sorry if this was horrible info). Is it inflammation in the bowel? Might be, however there is no blood, so no Crohn's or Ulcerative Colitis.

I had stomach pain when I took Mepron...that resulted in diarrhea shortly after.

If you're convinced it's from the doxy...then you should stop taking it. Give your GI a rest. It may take longer than 10 days.

So, you had diarrhea, now you're constipated?

Sorry about that. This is interesting that mepron caused you stomach pain and even diarrhea afterwards.
So, how exactly do you prevent it? You still take mepron? Didn't think people had these much problems with treating these stupid infections. Ok, herxes, but being unable to take the drug because of other unrelated reasons is frustrating.

I had diarrhea for 4 days, afterwards i lost a lot of water and even weight, according to some relatives. After the diarrhea stopped, i was unable to go to the toilet to poop for almost 3 days straight, a reason for why it took me quite some time to test for C diff. After the C diff test came back negative, i waited another 3 days and thought about restarting slowly doxy, with 200 mg once a day. My stool was thicker than usual and i think that is an indication of constipation? Anyway, i got the abdominal burning again, although mild compared to what it became before stopping abx.

The diarrhea went away - I upped the amount of fat I was taking with it...either that is what helped...or just my body being accustomed to it.
I had originally thought it was the Xylitol...but sleuthed out that it wasn't.

I only had a slight pain in the tummy...nothing bad. It lasted a few weeks...and then it went away...and then came back after many months on the Mepron. Now I'm not taking it anymore.

Sometimes after a bout of diarrhea, you can be constipated because you've lost all the liquid...I've had that before - 'rebound' constipation.

Not sure if that's what happened to you.
