I am new to this forum and need any feedback for my continuos herx I’ve been having.
I was dx with Lyme and mycoplasma 8 years ago in 2010. Went into remission around 2013 and felt great until May of 2017. Got very ill again in May and I stated oral antibiotics. In September I switched to IV antibiotics and colloidal silver for 6 weeks. I stopped IV treatment end of November and have been herxing ever since.

In the past, antibiotics always made me feel better with the lyme but when I attempt oral now, I get extremely sick with normal neurological Lyme symptoms (head fog, headaches, heavy head, tingling, anxiety, burning headaches and dizziness or the feeling I’m on a boat etc). My llmd would like me to detox before continuing treatment (my bands are still pretty high and dr wants to treat orally for about another year). Is it possible to start a herx 3 months ago and still not be able to detox? I have been trying detox protocols like daily oral glutathione along with occasional IV glutathione, Epsom salt baths, lemon water, burbur, pinella and enemas/colonics. I usually feel great for about a day after IV glutathione or a colonic, but then back down to sick again after about a day or 2. I would like to start treating soon but can’t when it makes me as sick as it does.

Hi Nramirez and welcome to our forum.

Glad you have joined us but so sorry you have Lyme and Co.

Have you tried any binders such as Zeobind by Biopure or activated charcoal?

Have you stopped all treatment since December or just the IV?

Some people have a certain gene or issue with detoxing, I hope other members with knowledge about that will respond soon and maybe be able to help with that in case that is your issue.

We encourage all new members to read our"New to Lyme"start here thread at the top of the page. It has important and useful information that may be of help to you.

Well I wish you the best of healing and others should be along soon, Take care, Jo

Thank you goshawk for the quick response. I have tried activated charcoal but it didn’t seem to make a difference. I have removed all treatment since I ended the IV’s in November and have tried oral doxy once since then and it immediately made me worse so I stopped (even after lowering the dose dramatically).

I took the 23 and me test to see if I have the MTHFR gene etc but I got about another month before those results will be ready for me to view.

if you feel good on gluatathion, get some reduced glut capsules on amazon and do large amounts. Thats what I do and it works pretty good for me. not as good as IV, but much cheaper.

also, try a SOD supplement, those are great for detox also.

I herxed for a couple months in the fall, but it got bad very fast and then gradually improved. Is yours more a constant sensitivity to treatment now? What treatment have you been trying?

Have you considered starting slowly with on of the herbal protocols out there to help?

You can control the amounts carefully using tinctures to see if you can tolerate them.

Lapis_29, how much glut are you taking per day? I have the liquid bottle and take 1 tsp a day, but that doesn’t seem to do much.

Dahlias you might be right. I might just be sensitive to the treatment and will probably eventually have to just take the abx regardless the reaction I get. I’m currently not taking anything to treat but have tried doxy (even in small doses) in the past but I herded even more so stopped. I also tried progesterone as my hormone levels are extremely low but that also gave me bad herx reaction so doc told me to stop because my body most likely wasn’t absorbing it anyways.

Goshawk, I did recently get tictures but have just been to scared to take them so haven’t started them yet, but I will definitely start on a low dose. I have A-L Complex that I’m supposed to take with monolauran.

A low dose would be just one drop a day for a few days to and see how you do. Then if no issues you then start to increase but only by another drop or two.

Herbals can be potent so going slow at first is best.

Hi Nramirez,
Welcome to the community.

I have had extremely long herxing episodes myself. When I first started out with pharma abx, I herxed for 12 months continuously. It was pretty scary, as it got quite severe, and I was having seizures and late stage Dementia symptoms at that point as well as many other issues. I ended up bed bound for several months. It took me quite a while to figure out just how to get my seriously toxin laden body to detox enough to settle down most of my symptoms. Maybe by listing what I did, it will give you some ideas.

Gene mutations, multiple tick-borne infections and more can have a big impact on our ability to detox. I have not had any of the gene mutation testing done, although I do seem to have the same kind of issues as those that do - so I figured it was best for me to assume that I did and work to get my body to detox much better.

It took a lot of diet changes as things with my body changed,
I use a foot soak,
dry skin brushing,
making sure my bowels moved at least once a day (sorry if it's TMI!)
pushing myself to drink at least 64 ounces of lemon water each and every day,
liver/gall bladder flushes (all natural), as needed,
oil pulling with tea tree oil,
taking activated charcoal, as needed,
Alpha lipoic acid,
 turmeric,
Methyl B-12 and methyl folate,
Dandelion tincture,
red root tincture,
Yogi brand detox tea (original flavor)
Have recently added cytokine remodulators - Chinese Skullcap and Red clover extracts
and keeping the amount of stress in my life at a bare minimum.

I have used apple cider vinegar to help with detoxing as well - it's really good, but started making my stomach issues worse, so I stopped using it daily and only use it occasionally when I know I need a boost in my detoxing for just a day or two.

You can find some really good detoxing suggestions in the "New to Lyme?" thread that sits at the top of the forum. And this is another really good resource for detoxing ideas for Lyme patients:

But, there is such a thing as over detoxing. This happens when we move more toxins than our body is capable of processing out effectively. Many toxins are stored in our tissues, and by detoxing, we move them to the bloodstream where we can process them out of our bodies through the lymph system, then on to the liver and kidneys as so on. We have to be sure to add in more detoxing routines slowly and carefully, or we will end up herxing just like we had never been detoxing. This article helps to explain that some:
Herb only treatment for Lyme & Bart ended 12/11 - no active symptoms for 2 yrs -Herb only treatment for Babesia ended 12/12
Had Lyme, Bart, Babs, RMSF, Ehrlichia, Myco, Anaplasmosis, EBV
New set of infections 8/2014 - still treating.

I herx now for long periods of time after stopping antibiotics. Happened a year ago after 7 days of minocycline. Happening now after 7 days of Augmentin. When I asked my Lyme doctor about what happened following the minocycline, she said it was because I did too much too fast and my body got flooded with toxins. I'm very toxic from other things too - mold (confirmed), heavy metals (suspected), and I have chemical sensitivities.

I'm using Buhner's herbal protocols for this reason, but I have to take tiny doses and I still struggle a lot, even after 8 months.

I feel toxed and "poisoned" a lot of the time. My LLMD actually said to me that some patients do feel like they're herxing continually. I do think in my case this sensation has to do with inflammation as well as detox issues (I do have the MTHFR genetic issues, as well as the mold detox genes issues). Doing a lot of detoxing doesn't help me as much as it should -- the one thing for me that causes an immediate turn-around (that doesn't, unfortunately, last) is coffee enemas. I'm now looking into cytokine blockers, like coleus forskolii, but the jury is still out on whether this will work/help.
