I’m recovering from the flu at the moment, still feeling tired. I’m on a herbal protocol for Lyme and co, took my herbs this morning they all came back out!
Not sure if the flu is causing this, if I’m not detoxing enough... feel like a couple days off the herbs wouls be good, am I asking for trouble by doing this? Or is it ok?

I'm pulsing antibiotics, so breaks are built in, but I have paused for being sick too. I think some people try to push through, but I felt like that was too much for me. If you take a break, you might need to restart gradually rather than picking up exactly where you left off. Feel better soon!

Szabo, this is different for each individual. Some can stop and pick up again, but others have to do like Dahlias said and restart again gradually.

You know your body better than anyone and if you feel you should stop, then maybe you should.

Listening to your body and learning what it is saying is such a huge part of lyme treatment.

I would suggest not stopping them - as you may be forced to restart from the beginning again - but to just lower your doses for a couple of days while you still recover.

A few days of lowered doses will give your body a break, while still supporting it. Oh, and do increase your detoxing, please! Having the flu means more toxins too.

I hope you get past the flu quickly!!!

Thank you all. It’s such a tough one, I really really don’t want to have to start from scratch all over again, I’m on 25 drops of jk, cats claw 3 times a day, 15 drops Sida Acuta 3 x day and 400mg andrographis 3xday as well as a lot of supporting herbs.

It’s taken me a while to get here, maybe I will just half the doses for the next few days whilst I’m recovering. I doubled my andrographis the last week, from 3x 400mg to 6 so that probably didn’t help either.

Thanks again. You all make me see clearly again when I’m confused and feeling hopeless!

Ooooooo doubling a dose is not advised. You over did it.

Overdoing ANYTHING can cause problems. Overdoing exercise, wine, food, excitement, herbs, antibiotics, all can cause problems.

Slow and steady like the turtle is what wins this thing against lyme. Huge changes always cause problems. I know this first had because I was so very impatient. It only took a couple of times overdoing something and finding out "the hard way."

Hang in there..... Hope you feel better soon.

Given that you threw them up, no - I wouldn't push through it and continue to take them.

I do believe in taking treatment breaks - even with herbals (contrary to what others believe - I don't necessarily agree for us personally) from time to time. We have personally stopped when sick - depending on the sickness/symptoms.

When you restart, it's not like completely starting over again (depends on how long your break is). It's likely that you would start lower and work yourself up quicker than previously going slow. But it's not something I'd rush though.

Feel better soon!

But Szabo threw the herbals back up.... so, it's not really a choice at that point.

Szabo - if your body is throwing up and not keeping the herbals down, well -- yes, I'd take a break until your body can take them. Generally missing a dose or two is not the end of the world - even with herbals.

It may take lower doses to become acclimated to a drug.

At the end of the first week of Fluconazole I had so much die off, anxiety, and fatigue I was forced to take a break. This was from small doses as I didnt front load as is often done.

I took a week off and then got back on that horse again expecting to feel much of the same, but by that time I had acclimated better. Eventually I was able to go up in dose slowly.

Keep track in your health diary how each addition makes you feel. I dont think the break hurt me but instead helped.

I would have needed a much worse reaction to have given up, but I realized there are not that many other options that didnt cost a small fortune and that any long break might render the drug useless in the future.

With Doxycycline 5 days of feeling bad is common and then it should get easier. Check other peoples experience with the same drug by searching online.

Thank you 1000daises. Yeah I threw them up straight away, within a minute of taking them, I didn’t take my afternoon dose and was contemplating taking the evening dose, but at a lower dose... or maybe I won’t. Hmm... can you tell I’m indecisive! :/

I took my artesunate and that’s stayed in but I’m undecided about the others. I usually go to a infrared sauna that helps me detox but I feel too tired with the flu to go at the moment so feel like I’m not detoxing enough.

Will take half dose this eve and if I don’t feel right maybe just take a day or 2 off until I have fought off this flu

Sorry, I was distracted - hubby got back with the new propane heater, and I had to go install it - sorry.

While I agree that skipping doses for a day or so, while a person has that much nausea or is vomiting, it's better if only lowering doses would work. It's a matter of how long you are off of the herbs and how severe the nausea is. Obviously, if you can't keep them down, then taking them is *essentially* a waste though.

Work on the nausea while you wait though, things like peppermint tea and ginger tea will help tremendously.

The concern here is more about getting back up to where you were, so as little ground is lost as possible, but I've always been for the more gentle way with treatment, so any time I've needed to completely stop treatments I have done so.
