I have been on 10mg of Zoloft for 5 days now and while it is making a small difference I am hopeful it will make much more of an effect once I reach the 4-6 weeks for full effect. If this works well for me, I am going to look into treating Lyme from here on out with Herbals.

I am going to see an LLMD herbalist who also prescribes abx if needed. I just want to know ahead of time. How long do Herbs that inhibit the CYP450 cytochrome, particularly the enzyme CYP3A4 inhibit this enzyme for. Many of the herbs out there such as Cats Claw, Andrographis, etc inhibit this enzyme which is chief in breaking down many SSRI's including the one that I'm on. Inhibiting these enzymes can mess with the bioavailibility of the drug in your blood supply. (50% of prescription drugs are metabolized by CYP3A4)

If I were to take my SSRI early in the morning. How long should I wait to take an herb that inhibits CYP3A4? I cannot seem to get a straight answer online. All of the articles simply want to talk about which herb inhibits what, but not for how long....

I will be waiting the 4-6 weeks before starting any kind of treatment at all so I know what I should feel like, therefore if an herb starts to mess with me I will know... I guess.

Thanks!

(If you are curious which herbs inhibit what, look up the herbs you take, and the prescription drugs you take on the Sloan Kettering website and click the "interactions" tab) They have done a greatg job making this process as simple as possible.....still complicated lol

I wonder if knowing the half life of the med you’re taking would help.
If it’s a short half life - say 2-4 hours - then you could time it so you’re taking your herbs at least 4-8 hours after the med and at least half will be out of your bloodstream, but it’s still affecting 50% of your med so not ideal

That also only allows you to take your herbs in afternoon/evening.

Can you take your med in late evening?
And finish taking your herbs by 4:00 pm?
But where can you get the half life info on the herbs?

Question: Are any of the herbs enhancers - not inhibitors?
