We’ve been trying various herbs with my elderly mother off and on for the last 15 months. Over this time she has become intensely sensitive to herbs, vitamins and supplements and now has reactions to pretty much everything. I worry that she may never progress using just herbs because of her inability to tolerate even a fraction of a drop. We’ve tried so many things herb and supplement wise. She briefly tried doxy a year ago and had no reaction to it. The only LLMD we saw was really not versed in Lyme. We’ve also tried an herbalist who told me she wasn't sure whether this was Lyme because her labwork looked too good. One of Jemsek’s P.A.’s is not far from us and it sounds like they have a good track record with antibiotics.

But I just don’t know what to do.

Her brief history: approx. 20 years of various symptoms including vision issues, reduced sense of taste/smell, leg weakness, hypothyroidism, ringing in ears, feeling generally unwell. Worst symptom: Progressive and extreme short-term memory loss and cognitive impairment. Bands 39 and 41 on Western blot. CD57 near zero.

Any advice or thoughts are appreciated!

Hi and sorry it has been difficult trying to find the best treatment and path of healing for your mother.

I would seek out Dr Js PA. The herbals do not work for everyone and maybe this is the case with your mom.

I would just be sure to discuss detoxing, yeast issues with the P.A. to try to be prepared for being on the ABX.

I would think Dr. J's P.A would be very experienced and this could help you in finding the right path for your mom.

Take care and I wish you all the best, Jo

Have you ruled out/in Mast Cell Activation Syndrome? When somebody is very reactive (over reactive?), I would wonder about checking for MCAS.

I know somebody who could not progress with treatment, and they went to a new doctor who treated this person with MCAS... and then he was able to get better (doing other things too for treatment - but I think the MCAS was really holding him back).

I'm so sorry your mother is struggling.

I personally choose to not do abx - primarily because I have yeast issues (and I wasn't impressed with lack of progress with them when we used it for my kids). And I'm struggling with herbals for me. My kids seem to do better on herbals than I do. But I'm pretty frustrated at this point for me.

So tough! Sending {{{HUGS}}} to you and your mother!
Kid#1: Extremely sick for several years, very difficult to treat, but doing great now!
Kid#2: Still sick now despite being treated for years but doing better (not well yet).
Kid#3: Generally good but relapsing off/on.
Me: Adv Labs positive 2016 (suspected I passed to my kids)-not as sick as others, mostly battling fatigue and yeast issues (heart/kidney issues resolved)
Treating with herbals now.

1000Daisies, I am not familiar with mast cell activation syndrome but I will look into it. My mother never used to be sensitive to anything. She took herbs and supplements without issue but since we've been trying to treat her she has become ultra sensitive.

Did your kids pulse antibiotics?

I'm sorry you're struggling with herbals too. I just don't know if we should try to continue them at micro doses or try Dr. J's nearby P.A. I lean towards going to his P.A. I wonder if there are there people that just can't tolerate herbals? I can't find many folks in the forums who switched from herbs to antibiotics but surely some have?

okay, I will share what I have learned so far. Although I have only had one appointment and have not started the treatment yet. But, I do have the protocol for the first couple of months.
